Florence choked on a sob as she landed near the battle. Her hands pushed, sliding against the purple boundary that trapped Orochimaru and the Hokage within.

"No!" She cried, nails clawing at the slippery surface, "no!" Though no matter how hard the kunoichi pleaded or tore she couldn't break her way in.

After several minuets the light haired woman gave in, sliding down to sit against the dusty roof, her forehead pressed against the purple wall. Florence could not bear to watch the battle.

The Hokage was strong, but he had also gotten old and a part of her knew he wouldn't make it out alive.

Florence's heart broke, Hiruzen was always there for both her and Kakashi. The old man looked after them, made sure they were okay and now the kunoichi couldn't even help save him.

A part of her wished Shikamaru had just left her to sleep. Rest peacefully through the hellish fight, but that was selfish.

The light haired woman pried her eyes open, through a haze of tears she could see the Hokage wipe the blood from his face.

She could not help when her father died, her brother or Minato and now she couldn't even help Hiruzen.

Florence couldn't help anyone.

"Stop" a voice ordered from behind her. The familiar silver haired man crouched down to the kunoichi's height, grabbing a hold of her face and forcing her to peer at him.

The jounin rubbed his thumbs under her eyes, smearing the watery tears on the the womans soft skin. Her saddened face hurt his heart.

"I know what you're thinking and nothing anyone can do can change this" Kakashi flickered his eyes to the Hokage briefly, his jaw clenched angrily.

Florence sniffled "thanks", her hand shifted to rest on his wrist "I love you".

Kakashi was always there. He never failed to make her happy and even if the jounin made her mad sometimes and was a stupid doofus, he was hers.

The kunoichi knew there was no one else she would rather be with.

"I love you too" Kakashi nodded to her, pulling back "are you good to fight?" He questioned, nodding to the battlefield.

The clash of blades sounded in Florence's ears and the loose dust stung in her eyes. She nodded briefly, sliding off the roof and into the cluster below. Orochimaru would pay for his attack.

Florence felt frustration.

Her fist squeezed and jaw clenched tightly. The kunoichi like the rest of Konoha felt the heavy loss of their Hokage and Orochimaru the treacherous snake managed to escape.

The woman stood by her lover dawned in black. They listened to the funerals closing remarks, eyes peering at the young photo of Hiruzen. Like so many others he deserved better.

She held heavy hand on Kakashi's arm, fingers digging into the loose fabric of his shirt. "I'm going to check on Asuma" Florence whispered as the people slowly dissipated around them.

The silver haired jounin nodded silently, he pulled away from her grasp.

Kakashi walked away, though the dense forestry with unkempt anger. The rolling waves of fustraruon lapped against his insides, drowning him.

He found himself back at the memorial stone, its surface scratched with age.

Kakashi sighed, his fingers slid along the cool surface, over the edge and tracing the many names. Why did he always end up here, back in the same place in the same way?

It seemed as if he was caught in a loop, a twisting road of repetition always finishing with loss.

He had failed as a teammate, as a ninja and a teacher.

Sasuke was gone, Rin, Obito, Minato and now Sarutobi were all dead. He had failed them all.

Florence made her way to Asuma, the dark haired man remained stilled, staring at his father picture with a stoic expression. An idle cigarette dangled between his fingers dropping ashes on the worn ground.

"Hey" she nodded, bumping her elbow against his side.

The jounin beside her merely nodded, his head lifting to stare at the sky. It was bright out, nearing noon. There were no clouds, no shadows or sign of rain- it was almost as of the world didn't care.

With a sigh Asuma took a drag, the smoke fanning out from lips with a slow exhale dissipating quickly into nothingness.

Florence chuckled dryly, stealing the stick from his grasp, "as your doctor I don't support your smoking habits". The womans voice died, cracking at the end falling into a cough to hide the ever nearing tears.

She stared at the cigarette held between her fingers, its end burning a soft orange.

The kunoichi blinked, bringing it to her lips and quickly taking a drag. It felt nice, the slight burn in her throat, the taste on her tounge.

Asuma tilted his head to peer at her, the licks of smoke fanning up from her lips.

"Cut me a break for today atleast Florence" he sounded exhausted.

She nodded, "for today" with a saddened smile the woman passed him back the dying stick.

They stood in silence by the gravestone. Florence remained staring at her feet, unable to peer at the photo of her late Hokage.

"I'm sorry" she finally uttered, stealing the cigarette back from his grasp.

Asuma nodded, "nothing anyone coulda done would of save him" he stared at the teary eyed female, "it was no ones fault".

He drew her into a hug, his hand tangling within her green hair.
