Their midnight game of Uno that night had started with them laying on Momo's rug, their faces less than a foot apart. Hell, they were so close that if Todoroki leaned forward a little bit he could brush her lips with his. And believe me, the small, peaceful smile on her beautiful face made him want to. But, it seemed to him that they were just starting to get fully comfortable with each other, so, he just played Uno. Plus, Momo didn't seem like that kind of person anyway, so he figured it wouldn't really go over well.
Momo placed down a yellow skip card, effectively making it her turn once again then proceeded to put down a draw four card, eliciting a groan from Todoroki. She then proclaimed the color yellow once again and placed down a yellow seven, enjoying the expression of pure exasperation on his handsome features. Her full lips just quirked up in a slight smile as she watched him shake his head and fail to suppress a smile.
"You're evil, you know. How long have you been holding those cards for?" He licked his lips to prevent himself from smiling wider as he drew four cards. God, she was totally screwing him over and he was still smiling like an idiot becuase she was...she was just her. He shook his head to himself at the thought and examined the cards in his hand as he pondered his next move.
"The entire game. And I know," She said with a satisfied smirk that was a frustrating combination of hot and adorable. It was frustrating because Todoroki couldn't figure out which and frustrating becuase he was spending an inordinate amount of time thinking about it. And it was frustrating becuase it was entirely distracting and preventing from actually thinking rationally.
"Can you stop?" He asked with a slight smile, bringing a slight look of confusion ti her face but overall just an expression of playful joy as if asking him "what?" Dear fucking god. "Doing that thing with your face?" He gestured to his own face and bit the inside of his lip to stop himself from grinning.
"You want me to stop smiling?" She asked, her playful smile just growing even wider at his request. She didn't know exactly why he was asking her to stop, but she felt inclined to smile more now that he was asking her to do the exact opposite. "Why is that?" She ran a hand through her silky raven hair, shifting it to the other side of her neck. Todoroki could feel his face heating up becuase fu-ck she was so damn pretty.
"It's very distracting," He managed to choke out without sounding too much like she was suffocating him with her natural beauty. The only problem was that this statement just caused her to smile more and, adding on top of it all, to run her tongue along her full bottom lips as she did so. He choked on air but skillfully covered up his bright red blush by scrubbing a hand over his features as if that would make it go away.
"Distracting huh?" She seemed to like the idea of being distracting and just nodded as she waited for him to make his next move. He couldn't blame her. Calling her distracting was basically saying 'stop smiling you're too hot and I can't fucking focus on playing Uno.' He knew that in her position he would be a total dick about it. But Momo just smiled to herself and waited, nodding occasionally.
He just drew in a deep breath and put down a draw four. Hopefully, that would get her to stop smiling that beautiful-ass smile of hers. However, it seemed to have the opposite effect which, despite him having successfully turned the tables in the game, he was now very much losing at life. Jesus Christ was it just him or was the room suddenly very hot and lacking necessary oxygen?
"I hate you!" She giggled playfully, her midnight eyes lighting up with joy. Todoroki loved this side of her. When he had first met her, she was so reserved. Yeah, she smiled, she laughed, but she still treated him very formally, using his surname more often than his first name even after she already knew him. He liked seeing her so comfortable and playful. So genuinely happy. It was beautiful.
"You love me," He smirked at her and she threw her head back as she released the most adorable laughter he had ever heard and ran a delicate hand through her silky hair. When she locked eyes with him again, she was still wearing a bright smile as she brought her index finger thumb together and said,
"Just a little bit," He bore her a cocky smirk which she countered with, "But don't let it go to your head. There are a lot of people I love just a little bit." He just eased into a charming smile. He could live with just a little bit. Sure, he wanted it to be a lot, but even Shouto Todoroki, a man who had never been in a romantic relationship that lasted more than a night, knew that these things took time. For her, he could wait.
"I can live with that," he said, brushing a hand through his hair before declaring the next color to be blue. He had started with a hand full of blue cards and two of the four cards Momo had forced him to draw, so he kind of needed to get rid of them because, thus far, blue had been a non-factor in their Uno game. "But eventually, you're gonna love me a lot." He assured her with a smirk. She just looked up at him through long, dark lashes that fluttered softly.
"Oh am I?" Her voice was softer and almost venerable, almost as if it was a genuine question that she wanted the answer to. The only question he had was, what answer did she want? There was a moment of hesitance in which he didn't know exactly what to say. How was he just supposed to answer that question? He hadn't expected her shift in tone. There were a lot of things he didn't expect about her. Like how fast she was pushing him to the edge of falling or how she managed to raise his heart rate and cause him to choke on his own words when no one else could. She was like an open book, except that book happened to be mystery book. The most well-written one in history.
So, in response to her, all he could think to say was, "I sure hope so."
