In all of Shouto Todoroki's life, there were four days that he considered to be the best days of his life. I would be lying to you if I told you that the day he finally earned the right to kiss Momo Yaoyorozu didn't qualify as the first of those four days. But that should've been obvious. I feel that throughout this story, I've made Shouto's feelings toward her pretty clear. He is disgustingly in love and I'm happy to report that, being the omnipotent narrator of this story, I can way with confidence that this fact never changes.

In case you were wondering, the third and fourth best days of Shouto Todoroki's life were the day he got to see Momo walk down the aisle looking like the angel she is, and the day his beautiful wife gave birth to their perfect daughter, Miria.

But we're here to focus on the second of the four best days of Shouto's life which takes place in a hospital at the edge of sunset three months after the phone call he received from Fuyumi regarding his mother.

(three months ago)

"Sho, it's about Mom," Fuyumi's voice was so soft that it caused Todoroki's heart to leap into his throat and tears to spring to his eyes. God, if this was what he thought it was, it couldn't be happening. It couldn't be happening becuase... becuase what was he supposed to do if it was?

"What about mom?" His voice was gravely and strangled as though he hadn't had a single drop of water in a week. That's what it felt like. It felt like he was suffocating to death and the room felt too hot and too cold and everything was too much. But he couldn't stop listening because he needed to hear what she had to say even if it killed him.

"She's gonna be okay."

The hospital room was warmly lit by the hues of the cold November sunset casting rays of pale pink and orange across the pristine white room. But it wasn't so much the beauty of the colors cascading across the snowy sheets or the bright accent of the beautiful roses sitting by the bed that brought a smile to Shouto's face. It was the soft expression of joy that crossed his mother's face as she looked away from the beauty of the setting sun and at her son and the girl who had just stepped into the room with their fingers laced together.

"Hi, Mom," He greeted, a sense of great joy overcoming him despite the fact that she had been alive and on the path to recovery for three months now. He was just so happy to be talking to her, to be in her presence, to see her smile at him like she used to when he was still her little boy. It was a feeling that couldn't really be described in insignificant words.

"ShoSho, you've come to visit your old mother, I see," She joked, a warm smile spreading across her features as she spoke. Momo could see the resemblance between the two. It was striking. Sure, Shouto had certainly inherited his father's sharp jawline and general face shape and for the most part, but the resemblance Momo saw went deeper than that. It was in the way they smiled and the way they laughed. "Who's this?" She gestured to Momo who hadn't realized she'd been smiling at their interaction until she was called out.

Shouto turned to his girlfriend and Momo saw the resemblance again. It was something deeper than looks, though. It was love, the kind of love Shouto's father could never have. This kind of love was theirs.

"This is my girlfriend, Momo," Shouto's voice was so content that Momo almost forgot what it was like to hear him upset. It was beautiful. She loved seeing her boyfriend so happy, and the way his mother's face lit up at the word 'girlfriend' in way the reminded Momo of literal sunshine.

"Girlfriend...I see," His mom looked Momo up and down with an unreadable expression that made Momo shift a little nervously. How else was she supposed react when her boyfriend's mom was looking at her like she was a foreign language written on the wall. But, after what seemed like an eternity (but what was in reality just a minute)," she finally said, "Shouto, do you love this girl?"

"Yes," He answered as though it were the most obvious thing in the world and he reflexively pulled her closer, causing her to lean on his shoulder which was warm in the cold chill of November. She had been expecting that. Shouto was always terribly affectionate with Momo in a way that surprised even him. What Momo hadn't been expecting, however, was for his mom to smile so brightly it would've made the sun quake and say,

"Well, then I love her too."
