"Uh, yeah..." Momo released a breathy chuckle of slight embarrassment as she realized that she had just interrupted a study session involving Izuku, Kaminari, Kirishima, and Bakugou. She spared a slight wave to the boys and they responded in kind, Izuku giving her a bright smile and a wave, Kirishima sparing her a wink, and even Bakugou acknowledged her presence with a nod. She looked like she was going to actually say something to them but Todoroki quickly closed the door, to Momo's surprise. She suppressed a grin. "What? jealous that I'm paying attention to your friends?" She teased.
"Not jealous, I don't get jealous," He reminded her swiftly as he stuffed his hands in his jean pockets and leaned against the door with a wink. She had to roll her eyes to prevent herself from blushing wildly at him. He just did that to her and despite the fact that he sometimes made the room feel really hot just by looking at her, she wouldn't choose to be anywhere else.
"You were jealous," She teased, bumping his shoulder with a hint of playful immaturity before folding her arms across her chest as she began to walk toward the elevator. She tugged him on the wrist, indicating for him to follow her lead as she guided him (hopefully) to the roof. She wasn't exactly sure how to get to the roof because there was no staircase, so she assumed that, just like the girl's dorm, the elevator led straight up to it. "But it's okay, I'm here for you anyway."
She stuck her tongue out at him playfully as they waited for the elevator doors to open. When the ding sounded after what felt like an eternity (but doesn't it always feel like an eon?), they stepped into the elevator in comfortable silence and Momo pushed the button conveniently labeled R. She had to assume that was the right one.
Todoroki suddenly turned to face one of the four mirrored walls of the elevator (it was very disconcerting. I wouldn't recommend making all the walls in an elevator mirrors for all of you architects out there. It's just kind of disturbing. I mean, who wants to be able to see Ed the Human Resources guy at all angles?). Out of the corner of her eye, she could see him making a heart with his hands, a look on his face as if to say, "can you see that?"
She smiled like an idiot but played it off with an eye roll before she turned to face the opposite mirror and used her hands to create the universal symbol for okay. She watched his muscular chest rise and fall with the ghost of laughter before his lips contorted into a sly smile that sparked a happy sort of unease in her mind.
It was only when he made a hole with his left hand and stuck the index finger of his right hand into the aforementioned hole that she turned around suddenly, cupping a hand over her mouth in shock, hiding a wide, playful smile.
"Shouto!" She shoved him lightly on the shoulder and he burst into smooth laughter that made Momo's heart skip a beat. Despite this though, she managed to reprimand him with, "That's inappropriate!" He just nudged her elbow with a smile that showed a jovial sense of joy. He was so cute when he wasn't being so damn flirtatious. I mean, he was cute all the time. But his sly sense of humor fit him perfectly.
"We're in college, Princess," He reminded her as she elevator doors parted to let them pass onto the sunset bathed roof. She quickly exited, stepping out into the small glass enclosure that protected the elevator from the destruction of the weather.
"With you're level of maturity, you should be in fifth grade," She shot back as they stepped onto the roof and he immediately went to the ledge. She got the sense that he liked sunsets even though, despite the honest nature of their relationship, he always insisted that they were cheesy. Actually, his exact words had been, "they're just a plot used by cheesy romance movies to create atmosphere." But the way he looks at sunsets is like the way he looks at...no, nevermind.
"So why'd you drag me up here?" He asked as he turned to her. His eyes studied her face with an unreadable expression, flicking over every feature as if filing the memory away. She didn't know why he would want to remember her face. It wasn't particularly remarkable and he could always just take a picture if he wanted to save it. But she didn't mention this to him.
Momo realized in that moment as she watched him lean against the ledge of the roof, his softly angled features illuminated by the setting of the sun casting orange and pink hues across his face, that she knew him. She knew almost everything about him. She knew his political views, how he thought about relationships, how he thought about family, about his siblings, about his dad, and how he saw the world. But she knew more than just that. She knew his arms, his jawline, his neck, his collarbones, and his hands. But she didn't know his lips. She didn't get to know that yet.
She flicked her eyes away from him to survey the scene before them, idyllic in it's as she responded to his simple question with, "I wanted to talk to you," She hadn't intended for her voice to become so soft that it was barely audible, and yet she found herself reduced to a whisper, her expression becoming unintentionally serious.
There was a moment of silence in which Momo didn't exactly know what to say? She didn't know how to conduct such a conversation because she'd never had to discuss being in love before. She thought she had been in love with Awase, but that turned out to be a foolishly directed infatuation and she would never in her right mind have told him about it. But now...
Well, now she was actually in love. She was really, truly, fully in love in a way she hadn't been before. And how was she supposed to navigate that? It wasn't as if people wrote books on her particular issue. Or maybe they did, but none of them would help. No one could help her with this. Not even the all-mighty love guru Mina. She would just have to do this one on her own.
She was snapped from her thoughts by Todoroki asking her with sarcasm lacing his voice, "So, are you going to elaborate, or what?" She could feel him tense beside her despite his casual demeanor but she couldn't bring herself to look at him because she was afraid that she might realize he already knew what she wanted to talk to him about. However, despite the fact that her throat felt like sandpaper all of the sudden and her heart was beating a million miles an hour, the words she wanted to say slipped from her lips almost reflexively.
"You said you loved me."
