Jungkook's POV
"You hate being me?" he scoffs.
"But I can see myself reflected in you. As you age, the devils will take hold of you, my son. You're destined to become another cruel Jeon. You'll carry on our legacy, and it's evident within you. So why pretend otherwise?" he smirks.
"You don't understand me."
"Oh, Jungkook. Trust me, I do. You're mirroring the younger version of me when your grandfather warned me that I'd eventually turn out like him. I hated his cruelty just as you do now. I was forced into this bullshit just as you are now. But, in the end, he was right. I transformed into his likeness, and here I stand."
Approaching me, he continues, "And now it's your turn," whispering before breaking into laughter.
His words stir unsettling emotions within me.What if his prophecy comes true one day? I refuse to become a heartless being like them.I want to be true to myself, I refuse to be someone they want me to be.
Yet, what if remaining true to myself leads me down the same path?
"Why me? Why not hyung? Shouldn't the eldest be the one put on the throne? Where'd the tradition go?"
"Hmm... Eunwoo appears too pure, much like your mother. Too pure to be aware of the devil's game. I couldn't envision him as the heir. He's a wimp."
"You can't talk about him that way. He's my hyung and he's still your son.""
"Enough, Jungkook! Ultimately, you stand to gain. You should be proud in being next in line, even if you're the second child. I certainly would. I feel ashamed to have Eunwoo as my son and he's lucky enough to never have heard those words from my mouth. You should be thankful for that as well if you care about your hyung's being."
His words stoke a fierce anger within me. No one should speak of my brother in such a disparaging manner.
"Do you have no compassion for your own children?"
"No. It's always about the money, never love. Love is dispensable. Money, on the other hand, is indispensable."
"You've lost your humanity."
"I don't need a reminder. Oh, and. Tomorrow, you will assume my position. CEO Jeon Jungkook."
"What?! I never agreed to take your place! You threatened to kill Jin hyung if I got too close to him, which is the only reason why I distanced myself. I love him so much, and you've destroyed us for this and your stupid money."
"As you've said, Jungkook, I have no heart. Why would I care about the well-being of others, right? You pledged to comply with my demands. No more talking, or your dear brother will be the next in my to-kill list."
"He's your own freaking flesh and blood! You can't just end your own son's life. That's wrong."
"How can something so wrong feels so right?" he chuckles wickedly, sending shivers down my spine.
"You have serious issues!"
I gasp as he brandishes a sharp knife towards me.
"When will you ever learn to shut your damn mouth? Show some respect. I'm your father!"
"You don't deserve to be one! I don't give two fucks that you're my father, you've never treated me like a son! You're toxic, and toxicity remains the same whether in blood or water!"
"Funny. I wonder how amusing it would be if I were to stab you with this knife. Perhaps slit your throat and add a little salt for flavor there," he muses as his finger grazes the sharp blade, drawing blood from his fingertip.
