IV. Parting

Yoongi walked along the shore - staring at the sea with wonder. The waves were calm as they met the shore with foam on the edge making quick hissing sounds on the golden sand before going back to the sea and the cycle repeated.

He, then, saw a fist - sized shell at the edge of the shore. The human boy smiled and picked it up before putting it in his satchel.

The human boy continued walking his way to the rocky path - where the cave was.

He looked around his surroundings before he headed inside the mouth of the cave.

"Jiminie?" He hollered while looking around the dark cave.

It was quiet. He didn't hear any response from the merboy but the sound of the waves from behind him. Yoongi walked further in the cave while he looked around -finding the merboy.

Suddenly, the sound of splashing echoed, making Yoongi flinch. He continued looking around until he saw a mop of blonde hair behind the boulder. He slowly walked towards and looked behind - only to be jumped by Jimin and they both fell in the water.

"Jimin!" Yoongi whined while sitting up. "You scared me." The human boy pouted while crossing his arms.

Jimin giggled and hugged Yoongi - who rolled his eyes before returning the hug.

"I'm just so happy to see you, Yoongi!" The merboy chirped and looked at the human boy with his crescent - formed eyes. But then, he frowned and hugged Yoongi tightly.

The human boy knew that that was their last day of their playdate but his mother taught him not to be selfish. Moreover, Royaume was not a good place for innocent guppies like Jimin. Until that day, two kinds were still enemies.

"Jiminie, we can still play until sunset." Yoongi said and raised Jimin's head with his hands - squishing his chubby cheeks. "Let's make it memorable as we can, yeah?" Jimin beamed and nodded.

Throughout the day, Yoongi and Jimin played with laughters and splashes echoed in the cave until the sun went down to the azure sea.

"Jiminie." Yoongi called out to the merboy while looking at the sunset. Jimin crawled beside him and leant against his shoulder.

"It's time to get you home." The human boy mumbled.

He was waiting for a happy response from Jimin - excited to see his family again. However, when he looked at Jimin beside him, he didn't expected to see him crying while looking at the sun.

"Jiminie?" The golden tailed boy looked at him with his glistening blue eyes. "What's wrong? Don't you want to see your family again?" Yoongi asked while wiping his tears with his sleeve.

"I-I d-do b-but...." Jimin sobbed and hugged the Raven haired boy. "I am going to miss you."

Yoongi felt the tears building up in his eyes but he held it back while hugging Jimin.

"W-what i-if we meet a-again? B-but....." Jimin looked up at Yoongi with a worried look. "As enemies. I don't want that!" He said, shaking his head.

Yoongi knew that too. One day, when they grew up, they would be each others' throats. Humans and Mermaids were enemies for centuries.

' The shell...' Yoongi realized it and got the shell out of his satchel. Jimin looked at it in awe. "Wow!"

The human boy then gave it to him. Jimin held it carefully and admired the yellowish white shell.

"Something to remember me." Yoongi explained. He felt his cheeks getting warm when he saw Jimin smile.

"Me too! Me too!" Jimin said happily. Yoongi watched Jimin cupped his own cheek. The merboy closed his eyes and blinked - letting some tears rolled down from his cheek.

Afterward, Jimin showed Yoongi his small palm. Yoongi gasped when he saw three small pure white pearls and looked at Jimin with wide eyes.

"Merpeople like me can turn our tears into pearls." The merboy explained and grabbed Yoongi's hand.

Jimin put the pearls on top of his palm and pushed his fingers - curling them close.

Yoongi picked Jimin up and walked out of the cave. He looked around before he walked to the shore.

Once he was his waist deep, he let Jimin down in the sea.

They looked at each other - memorizing every features - afraid of one day, forgetting how they look like. They stayed quiet for a moment.

"Will we see each other again?" Jimin asked, feeling worried.

In response, Yoongi smiled at him. "You know."

Jimin smiled back at him with tears falling from his eyes and whispered, "I know."

Jimin pulled away from Yoongi and smiled one last time before he dove down in the sea.

Unconsciously, Yoongi clutched the pearls to his chest while looking out at the sea.

"I'll never forget you, Jiminie."

Sorry for the late update. I thought I lost my notebook because it has the drafts of this story and luckily, my parents didn't read it. *Phew*
