In ancient times, there was a discord between the humans and the mermans that led them into war. The mermans refused to let the land dwellers to go in their territory- the sea.
The mermans did not trust them because they thought they would just destroy the lives living in the brine waters for their greedy purposes.
Death was always present as many lives were takened day by day until one day, the land king couldn't take it anymore.
His heart grew heavier everytime he witnessed the chaos from his huge window of his study room. The wails of his people had been haunting him, including in his sleep.
He walked out of the palace and headed down the shore. The land king gasped in horror when he saw the fight up close.
Humans were shooting cannons and harpoons from their ships. He could hear the mermans sing beautifully and so alluring that he had to shake his head to stay conscious and covered his ears with his hands.
Suddenly, a massive wave emerged and destroyed one of the ships. For a , the land king thought that he just saw a megaladon - the gigantic shark.
"KING HABAEK!" The land king shouted as loud as he could.
He glanced around and then, shouted again. Then, there was something emerging from the water slowly. First, it was a three golden spiked weapon and the sunlight made it glistened with power.
Next, was the most aesthetic creature he had ever seen - the epitome of beauty and temptation that no one could resist - a merman.
His shoulder - length hair was as black as night with blue highlights like the evening sky touched the sea with his golden crown decorated with shells rested on his head. His face could make Aphrodite jealous because his beauty was beyond compare.
The land king could see the deepest part of the sea from his eyes that he could drown in them. The merman's nose was straight and perfect. His lips - plump and moisture - were as red as the red rose he had in his palace's garden.
The merman looked like he was sculptured by the gods and put white sand on his skin to have a color; decorated his wondrous body with gold jewelries and shells on his upper body.
That merman was so beautiful that he was also dangerous. He could have anyone wrapped around his fingers with a simple action.
The land king made a deal with the sea king that he would make a law about protecting and preserving the marine life in exchange for the fishermen to fish and the sailors to sail in the sea. The merman agreed and shook hands with the human king.
From that day onward, both land and sea were peaceful and united. Both kings would always meet up on the dock to discuss but somehow, a mysterious blossom bloomed between them.
One day, there was an accident that could cause the humans to hate and be felt betrayed by the mermans.
"One of your people killed mine. Are you planning to start another war?" King Gwangsu glared at the sea king, who felt his heart dropped to the trench by his harsh tone.
King Habaek shook his head. "No, I would never but I heard from the village that there is a rebellion happening in my kingdom." He answered sincerely. "I guess what they did was an act of it that they still hate your kind." He added.
King Gwangsu sighed and sat down on the edge, crisscrossed. "And now mine hates yours." He groaned.
King Habaek frowned and propped himself up to sit next to him. He looked down onto his blue tail.
"What shall we do? I don't want another war." The sea king sighed and ran his talons through his wet hair.
"They must not see each other." The blue merman froze and slowly looked at the human king.
"What?"
King Gwangsu looked at him with his forest green eyes that reminded King Habaek of the trees on the land.
"The only way to avoid them to fight each other is to never let them see each other."
"But that also means..." Realization struck him hard.
It seemed like the sea king find it hard to swallow the lump that was starting to form in his throat. He looked up at the stars.
' I am going to miss this.' He felt the tears slowly coming out and tried to blink them away.
He suddenly felt a warmth on his left cheek and the force made him looked at the land king in the eyes; the sea king saw that he was in the similar state.
"Habaek..." His soft voice made the merman released a sob accidentally but he didn't care.
King Gwangsu placed his forehead on his as King Habaek rested his hand on his.
The land king chuckled humourlessly. "You still look handsome even though you are crying." He whispered as he stroked his cheek.
Two shadows went towards each other, closer until they became one as they shared their final moments under the moon, savoring the feeling of love they had hidden from each other.
A tear glistened by the moonlight and another appeared. When they pulled away, they whispered their final vows to each other,
"You will always be in my heart, Gwangsu."
"You will always be in my heart too."
When Habaek returned to Korallia with a heavy heart, anger rose up in him and ordered the guards to capture every single rebels so that they would be executed.
Most rebels ran away from Korallia but they had sworn that they would come back for revenge and to claim Habaek's Trident.
