"Carlos, are you ready?" Jay called from outside the dorm.
Carlos didn't respond but instead he continued to stare at himself in the mirror, shifting his weight from side to side, trying to see if there was anything wrong with his outfit. There was already a pile of clothes behind him, all of which were the clothes he had rejected. Just looking at the pile made Carlos cringe.
"Almost done." Carlos answered another minute later.
Jay sighed deeply and looked at the watch that Ben gave him for going a week without stealing anything. Except, right after he was given the watch, he went back to stealing anything that caught his eye and Ben didn't try to stop him.
"Okay. Please, just hurry up." Jay responded after checking the time. '8:19. Great, we're almost twenty minutes late. Just great.'
"Fine." Carlos called back, finally agreeing with the outfit he was wearing. He regretted not asking Evie for help, but he didn't want to ruin her alone time with Doug.
He walked over to the door and opened it, only to find Jay leaning against the wall. Jay looked up, his eyes closed as he spoke.
"Finally, you're done-" Jay paused, looking over Carlos frame, taking in his appearance as he stumbled to find the right words to say. "You look amazing, I mean, you always look amazing. Wait, I mean, you just, wow."
"I'm glad you like it." Carlos replied, his cheeks burning as he adjusted his red tie that went along with his white suit and black dress suit and shoes. "It took me a long time to decide on what to wear."
"It doesn't matter, you look great in everything." It took Jay a few seconds to process what he had just said. He felt his cheeks burn to which he quickly turned away. "We should get going, it's getting late."
"Yeah, we should."
They arrived at the edge of the forest that surrounded Auradon. Ben had recommended since his mother often liked to come out here and enjoy the nature. He also said that this is where she and the king like to stroll for a romantic evening. After all that, it was hard for Jay to say no.
"This is nice. The fireflies help make the place feel so magical." Carlos said quietly, walking towards one of the trees.
"If you say so." Jay responded, digging throw the picnic basket he had brought along until he found two clear glass jars. "Why don't you say we catch a few?"
"Really!?" Carlos turned around, running up to Jay, a smile on his face as he reached for one of the jars.
"Yeah." Jay smiled while handing him one of the Jars.
"This is going to be great." Carlos smiled, popping the lid off of the jar before turning around to look for his targets.
They both wandered the woods for a while, trying to catch fireflies as they made small talk. Jay laughing as Carlos struggled to keep the fireflies in his jar and Carlos admiring all the ones Jay had successfully caught. It wasn't until a few minutes later that they decided that whoever got the most fireflies would be able to have more video game time than the other for a whole week.
In the end, Jay won with 21 fireflies while Carlos had successfully caught 19.
"That's not fair, you totally cheated." Carlos argued as he walked alongside Jay, looking at the fireflies that were flying inside of his jar. "There is no way you were able to catch that many."
"Aw, come on, you're just upset because I get to play video games whenever I want and you can't." Jay laughed, sling an arm around Carlos' shoulder. He smiled as he gave Carlos a small peck on the cheek, smiling a little more as Carlos turned bright red.
"Fine, but can we just go eat, I'm starving." Carlos turned away, his cheeks burning a little bit more.
"Anything for you my little cinnamon roll." Jay laughed as he led Carlos through two pillars, leading to a wooden dock that ended a few feet away from the sand.
"I thought I told you to stop calling me that." Carlos replied.
Jay laughed again as he unwrapped his arm from Carlos' shoulder and placed the basket on the ground.
"Okay, okay." Jay let his laughter die down as he took a blanket out of the basket, he started smooth it out onto wooden surface. Once he was done, he watched as Carlos took a seat, placing the glass jar a few inches in front of him.
Carlos took in the sight as the moon's light reflected onto the clear water. The lake was so big that it made Carlos feel small in comparison. Of course, that feeling quickly faded away as he felt Jay's warm hand on his shoulder.
"Is that chocolate?" Carlos asked as he admired the small bowl of chocolate covered strawberries.
"Uh huh, according the Mal, these things are really good. I figured that since you love chocolate so much, you would maybe like these." Jay smiled, taking one out of the bowl before putting it in front of Carlos' face. "Here you go."
Carlos felt his cheeks burn for the millionth time as he realized that Jay was trying to feed it to him. He slowly leaned forward, taking a bite out of it while looking up at Jay who was also bright red.
"It's really good." Carlos said, quickly looking away. "Thanks."
Jay smiled awkwardly as he ate the rest of the strawberry, seeing as Carlos is clearly embarrassed.
After that, they both sat next to each other, taking in each others presence and once the awkward tension was out of the way, they talked. Both of them laughing and smiling along with some more blushing. Once they were done with the strawberries, Jay took out some more food, every now and then he would awkwardly try to feed it to Carlos to which Carlos awkward would accept.
Once they were done with they're meal, the packed up and made they're way through the forest, smiling. Both of them trying to start a conversation that always seemed to fly south.
Once they made it to the edge of the forest, they stopped, both of the looking at each other, jars in hand.
"I had fun." Carlos said finally, looking up at Jay. "Thank you for this."
"Don't thank me, after all, I had fun too." Jay replied, looking down at Carlos. "What do you say we let these things go and you and me could head back."
"That sounds good."
The both brought up their jars and opened them slowly. They watched in awe as the tiny creatures flew out, little bright lights moving across the sky.
Jay smiled as he turned to look at Carlos who was mesmerized by the sight. With one hand, he reach forward to touch his cheek while the other one reached for his hand.
"Jay." Carlos said quietly as he was now looking up at Jay who had his hand under his chin.
With that, Jay leaned forward, pressing his lips against Carlos'. Carlos let go of his hand to wrap his arms around Jay's neck while Jay's went to hold on to Carlos' waist.
After a few more seconds, they broke apart, looking into each others eyes.
"Thank you, this was the best first date ever." Carlos smiled, holding onto Jay.
"It was by best first date too." Jay smiled back.
They unwrapped their arms from each other, still smiling as the walked hand in hand back to their dorm.
