"Dude, none of this makes sense." Jay looks over when he hears a soft whining and chuckles. "No, not you Dude. I mean Carlos."
"What have you moved on to?"
"Math." Jay taps his pencil against the notebook. "The little squares on the paper."
"It's graphing. If you can do basic math, you can graph," Carlos nudges Dude aside to move closer to his roommate. They are sitting on Jay's bed together, books spread out before them and pencils littering the sheets. Mal and Evie have claimed Carlos' bed for their own study session and the girls are in the middle of a lively flash card quiz for biology, but neither boy minds. It gives them an excuse to share a bed. For studying, of course. "You take this equation and use the coordinates in place of the x and y variables..."
Jay rubs his temple at the words. Auradon Prep is freaking out at how far behind the four of them are in basic classes. The Isle taught how to read and write (specifically for graffiti vandalism that Mal enjoyed), how to count (to know if someone shorted you in the market) and how to form a proper scheme to please their parents.
Coordinates and parts of a cell weren't really that important compared to following in the footsteps of the four most evil villains to ever live.
"Pay attention!" Carlos snaps in front of his face and Jay blinks. "Do you get it?"
"Yeah. Totally."
"Let me see you do the next one by yourself."
Jay scowls, but grabs the pencil anyway. Put this number here and that number there...
"Wait, switch those." Carlos' finger brush against Jay's hand. "First number is the x-coordinate, second is the y."
He erases furiously and scribbles the numbers in the correct spots while glancing at the problem Carlos just finished and trying to follow the steps. He multiplied, then added...then drew the points on the graph and...
"You did it!" Carlos cheers and throws himself into Jay's side, arms wrapping around him in a tight hug and lips finding his cheek for a loud 'mwah!' "I knew you could do it!"
Jay grins and returns the hug, noting the silence that has fallen over the room. He glances at Mal and Evie on Carlos' bed, watching the two of them smugly. It takes another second for Carlos to straighten himself and flush terribly with the realization that he just kissed Jay in front of the girls.
"Hey babe?" Mal asks.
"Yes dear?" Evie looks at her as Mal leans forward and kisses her on the mouth with both boys watching. "Thank you dear, but we're not done with photosynthesis yet."
Jay grins at the girls, who smile back and continue with their flash cards. "If I got a kiss for getting one problem right," he murmurs to Carlos, still red in the face, "what do I get when I ace my exam?"
