"E, I need you to do me a favor."
Evie glanced up from the gown she was working on as Jay waltzed into her and Mal's room, the long haired boy pacing nervously as he shuffled something from one hand to the other. Placing the fabric aside, Evie gave Jay her full attention, brow raising slightly as she gave him a gesture to go on. "I need you to give this box to Carlos when he's out of his therapy session and make sure he knows not to open it until I call him at midnight tonight." He held out the object in his hand, and Evie's eyes lit up at the small velvet box he held.
"Is that a ring box?" Jay glanced at the box in his hand, a frown crossing his lips as he glanced between the box and Evie before giving a nod, holding it out to her again.
"Uh, yeah? So will you do it? I have to go in like ten minutes, Evie, I don't have time for this I have stuff to do. If you can't I'll ask Mal." Evie jumped from her seat, reaching to snatch the box from Jay's hand to inspect.
"Yes, of course I will Jay. He can't open it until midnight?" She glanced up from the box to look at him, and Jay gave a firm nod, crossing his arms over his chest as Evie set the box on her sewing table.
"Until I CALL him at midnight, yes. Thanks, Evie, I really appreciate this- he won't be out of his session until after I leave and I didn't want to risk leaving it in the dorm room and him overlooking it." He leant forward to press a kiss to the girls cheek before he turned towards the door, waving over his shoulder. "I gotta jet now, Ben will freak if I don't hurry up. Thanks again, E!" Evie watched as he left the room before turning her attention back to the box, curiosity taking over as she pondered the reason behind waiting for midnight to open it. The only reason she could think of for making Carlos wait to open it was that Jay wanted to see his reaction, possibly, or that he had something to tell or ask him as he opened it...
Oh.
She looked at the box again, giving it a little shake as her cheeks pinkened at the thought that crossed her brain. There was no way Jay was doing what she thought he was...was there? The two boys had been together nearly a year now, and while a year was forever on the Isle it was nothing in Auradon from what she'd gathered from Ben and Doug.
But what if....
She shook her head, picking up the box again to turn over in her hands before scoffing at her own ridiculousness.
There was no possible way Jay was proposing to Carlos....right?

Carlos yawned as he glanced at the clock, leaning back against the headboard of his bed with Dude tucked against his side, snoring soundly as his little paws twitched in his sleep. Evie had given him a small black velvet box earlier in the day with the express instructions to not open it until Jay called him at midnight, and though he had been curious he had been sure to follow the instructions even as evie teased that it could be 'something big' and that he shouldn't 'jump into anything' because he was 'still really too young for that'.
Frankly, he had no idea what Evie was talking about.
The video call notification popped up on his lptop screen as he let out another wide yawn, and he pressed the accept button before shifting the laptop in his lap, grinning as Jay's tired face popped onto the screen. The other teen looked exhausted- unsurprising after being on a bus for five hours, travelling to Agrahbah for a Tourney game- but his face lit up as he spotted Carlos.
"Hey, you." Carlos' voice was low, unwilling to wake up Dude as he shifted a bit more to get under the lamplight, and Jay's expression softened some as he took in the bags under the younger teen's eyes.
"Hey yourself. Rough session today?" Carlos gave a half shrug, fiddling with the box in his lap as Jay frowned slightly at the sight.
"It wasn't great. But I don't really wanna talk about it when you're so far away, Jay. How was the ride up? Did you see Aladdin and Jasmine yet?" The Sultan and Sultana had taken an interest in Jay's life since their declaration of goodness, often inviting the ex-thief to their home on PD days and weekends. Jay gave a small chuckle, running a hand through his loose hair as he nodded.
"Yeah, they met us at the hotel, me and Aziz are gunna go to breakfast with them before the game tomorrow. Did Evie give you anything today?" Carlos grinned at the question, holding up the box for Jay to see.
"This? Yes, and I'm pretty sure she thinks I'm about to get proposed to or something." Jay snorted, and Carlos shook the box slightly. "What is it?" Jay's brow rose as Carlos inspected the box carefully, amused at his boyfriends actions.
"Well it'd be a shitty surprise if I told you what it was, C. Open it and find out." Carlos grinned as he pulled the ribbon off of it, opening the box carefully before peering inside. His expression grew confused as he pulled out a small key.
"A key?" He turned his attention to the computer screen again, and Jay gave a nod as Carlos turned the key over in his hand, noting the small 'Cinderellasburg Cottages' keychain that dangled from it. "To a cottage in Cinderellasburg?" Jay nodded, his image shaking as he excitedly shifted, jostling his laptop in his lap.
"Chad helped me get us a cottage for the entire long weekend. I thought we could go away just the two of us...I wanted to be the first person to wish you happy birthday and give you a present. You're sixteen now, dude." Carlos glanced at the clock, snorting as he noted the time.
"Not until 1:01 am, but close enough. Thank you, Jay...I wish you were here for it, but this is a pretty good gift." Jay's smile faltered slightly, and Carlos quickly shook his head . "Now you have to win your game in honor of my birthday though. Them's the rules, Jay." Jay snickered, and Carlos held up the key again, grinning widely. "I'm pretty sure Evie was positive you were going to do something stupid like propose to me while we're still in high school. She's such a hopeless romantic but she's not realistic!" Jay's expression softened as Carlos turned his attention back to him.
"I'd marry you in a minute dude, but I think we should probably wait until after high school at least." Carlos rolled his eyes at Jay's teasing tone, and the older teen chuckled. "We could pretend I did to mess with her. It'd be fun."
"Oh Dalmations, that would be hilarious! We totally should." Carlos beamed, leaning to set the key on his side table as Jay let out a wide yawn. "You should try to get some sleep though, Jay. You've got a big game in like ten hours." Jay gave a nod, and Carlos gave him a soft smile. "I'll be cheering for you from here, I love you." Jay smiled as he shifted onto his side to lay down, reaching to flick off the lamp that had been on.
"I love you too, C. I'll be sure to do a few scores in your honor." Carlos grinned, and the two said goodnight before hanging up, Carlos closing the laptop with a dopey grin as he placed the electronic to the side of his bed and curled up with Dude.
He was excited for the cottage, but he was possibly more excited for messing with Evie. He grabbed his phone and sent a quick message to Jay before closing his eyes, pressing his face into the pillow under him that smelt like Jay's shampoo, Jay's response going unnoticed as he settled into sleep.
