"You ready?" Kennedy looked at me.

"Yeah," I smiled and took her hand.

"You guys all ready to go?" Kevin yelled up the stairs.

"Yeah!" Kennedy responded for us, and Kennedy, Scarlett, and I all went down the stairs to join their parents.

---------

We all got into the jeep, it was a tight fit, but we made it work and drove to the softball field.

I was having a ton of fun, we were singing many different pop songs I knew, even though it was Kevin's playlist, and I was singing loudly and boldly.

Kennedy was starring at me the whole time, I pretended not to notice but she was definitely staring.

When we got to the field, almost the entire team was already there, they were warming up, throwing and practicing catching. A few of the girls were swinging their bats around like it was the end of the world.

I smiled when I saw Catherine was the last one to arrive, and once she did Kennedy and her shared a bro hug, you know, the kind teenage boys give to each other, where they shake hands and pat each other on the back.

I was playing some games on my phone when I got another call from my mother.

I didn't want to answer it then Scarlett saw why I looked so down, "You are not legally obligated to answer that, just so you know," I smiled at her banter as I hit decline on the call.

Then an unknown number called me, it took a minute but my phone did a scan and I found out it was the police.

I smiled at Scarlett and said, "One second, I think this is the officer from this morning," and I walked behind the bleachers and answered the call.

"Hello, Ella," I was relieved to hear the officers voice from today.

"Hello, officer!" I said cheerfully.

"I never did tell you my name, I'm officer Greg, I'm here with your mother, as you know she just tried to call you... Can I ask why you didn't answer any of the past calls from your mother?"

"I had my phone off all weekend, when I turned it back on, I had about twenty messages ranging from calm collected bribery to screaming and threatening me to come home. I didn't come home because I wasn't ready to deal with her yet,"

"Alright," Officer Greg hesitated for a moment, "Are you somewhere private right now?"

"No, I'm actually at Kennedy's softball game right now, they are just warming up, so you can tell me whatever you are hesitating to tell me," I smiled knowing he was going to mention the divorce my dad had mentioned to me.

"Your parents are getting divorced, Ella," He said a large amount of concern in his voice.

"Oh, I knew that," Look who was right, "Dad called and texted me about it, I'm glad he is going to finally be able to marry Leah," I smiled thinking about it.

"O-okay," Officer Greg seemed shocked, "I think I already know the answer, but I am legally required to ask after the divorce is settled who would you like to live with?"

"Dad and Leah," I was glad I would finally be able to get out of this toxic relationship with my mother.

"Okay, then if you haven't deleted them already make sure to keep those voicemails from your mother, that way it will be easier to settle the claim," Officer Greg's voice got softer as he finished the sentence almost like he was thinking out loud.

"I haven't deleted them and I will make sure to keep them," I said proudly.

"Alright, I think that is all I will need, for now, thanks again Ella," He said as he ended the call.
