It had been a few days since the incident at bowling and the worker who had given me the drink had been fired. Today was the day that I had been dreading since my dad mentioned the divorce.
My dad had the papers. He quickly handed them to me.
"Will you please give this to your mother?" He asked me softly.
"Can't we just, leave it in her mailbox?" I frowned at the papers.
My dad sighed. "There has to be an impartial witness..."
"How am I impartial?" I didn't understand how it would work if I'm not an impartal witness, I wanted this divorce to happen, I wanted my dad to be happy.
"You're right, you are not impartail.. who is that doesn't know of our situtation and would be willing to do this? Do you have any friends who don't know Ella?" My dad asked me softly.
"Quite a few actually," I smiled, "Let me just go ask them if any of them are avalible."
I took the papers from dad and walked home.
Kennedy was waiting for me inside. I had asked her if I could do this myself, but she had obviously been worried.
"Ella!" She smiled when she saw me and pulled me in for a quick kiss.
I hadn't been expecting that, you would think I would get used to her random displays of affection but obviously I never did.
"Hey Kennedy," I smiled glad to see her again, "I need some help..."
"Sure, love, what is it?" Kennedy pulled away to look at me.
"I need someone to come with me to my moms so that she can sign the papers, the problem is, this person has to be impartial." I sighed not knowing who we could ask.
"oh yeah, that's fine, here, let me just text the softball team to see who is available," She quickly pulled out her phone and sent a large group text. People didn't respond at first, but after a little while, they started answering, most of them were saying no, but then Catherine answered saying her and julia would join us to watch my mom sign the papers.
We all met up near my moms house. Not right outside it since two cars pulling up into someone's driveway can be intimidating, then we walked a few houses over to her house.
"Why am I here?" Julia questioned.
"Because you would be sad without me bunny," Catherine quickly replied.
"Cat what did we talk about?" Julia was a bright red and was clearly clenching her teeth.
"Not to call you that when we are with people," Catherine looked down ashamed of herself.
"No, don't be upset.." Julia groaned, not wanting to give into her girlfriends antics.
"Y'all are so cute," I said a little bit of my old country accent coming out making me blush lightly in embarrassment.
"That was cute, angel," Kennedy replied squeezing my hand, now it was my turn to blush.
We arrived at my moms house.
"H-hey mom," I faked a smile as I entered the house.
"Oh, my sweet baby, you're okay!! I have been worried sick these last few days!" She tried to pull me into a hug but I dodged it.
"Can you please sign these?" I held out the divorce papers for her, hoping she would sign them quickly and then I could go home.
"Are those divorce papers?" Mom gasped as she looked over them, "Wow, I didn't think Rich had the balls, I mean, after I told him I had faked us being soulmates the whole time just so he would like me, I thought he would stay with me forever with you, but then he met that Leah, oh how I hate her,"
I stopped listening, throughout my moms ramblings I only remembered one detail the entire time. My parents are not even partial soulmates. I'm not meant to be alive.
