"An ice cream shop? Really?"
Hushed whispers as we entered, in full FBI mode. Local authorities were taping off the place while coroner teams were slowly bagging bodies.
Several smited humans, from the looks of things. The lingering energy in the air was hurting my brain, distracting me as Castiel introduced us to the police.
"Agent Keys, and this is agent Amy Lee..."An elbow nudged me in the ribs to focus and pull out my badge.
Still, their chatter to the commander hardly reached my ears because of the pitched ringing coming off...everything. Especially the bodies.
I worked to shove down the discomfort and try to get a read on what happened, but all I was coming up with was a bright light. The smiting had done a number on the base energy of the place. It was like trying to find patterns in vibrating sand.Castiel examined the corpses, while kept painstakingly trying to get a read on what happened. Both of us waiting for Sam and Dean to arrive and assist.
In the midst of touching a booth table and almost getting a clear image, I was dragged away by the shoulder to come face my brothers.
"Thank you for coming," Castiel greeted them.
Both of the boys cast me wary glances as I approached but said nothing to me.
"Spears and Aguilera?" Sam complained of the aliases Castiel gave the locals for them.
"I've noticed your aliases are usually the names of popular musicians," the angel responded, unaware of how right and yet so wrong he was. Even I had to laugh.
"Wow..." Dean muttered.
"Come have a look," I offered to escort them to the nearest, eyeless body, "and the others are the same. Burnt out husks."
"Ok so what is this, some sort of mass smiting?" Dean asked.
"I dont know what this was..." Cas admitted, shaking his head, "I've never seen anything like it. Six humans died here, and one angel."
"One of yours?" Sam inquired.
"A good soldier...this attack...I knew he wanted war but this ...this abhorrent even for him."
"Yeah..." Dean agreed, though was hardly moved by the atrocities, "so what, Seer-Almighty can't see what happened?"
I shook my head, ignoring his direct rudeness. "Whatever happened disrupted the energy field for miles. Its like...someone threw turpentine all over the painting. And it hurts..."

The command center was busier than ever as the four of shuffled across the main room. Hannah rose to her feet to greet us upon sight.
"Commander; lieutenant.""Oh its just creepy..." Dean grumbled under his breath, uncomfortable with Castiel and I being treated like cult leaders.
"Sam, Dean, this is Hannah," Cas introduced.
"The Winchesters," she greeted back with forced respect, "I've heard so much about you..."
"What can I say?" Dean beamed back at her, "Cas is a fan."
Another angel abruptly approached me, carefully taking the box of evidence I held in my hands with a slight bow. "I start to examine this evidence."
"Sir," Hannah recaptured attention, "This morning, Josiah wasn't at roll call."
"Uh..roll call?" Sam repeated quietly, "you hold roll call?"
"They like to hear me to say their names..." Cas admitted with some disdain.
