harry's in a wardrobe

The summer after her first year at Hogwarts proved to be very uneventful for (y/n). Considering her last few days were some of the most exciting of her life, the summer went painfully slow as she counted down the minutes until she could go back to the school.

Although something peculiar did happen; she learnt to talk to snakes.

She and Draco had been dueling in the courtyard of their manor, 'practicing for the golden trio' as Draco had put it.
(y/n) was winning, and Draco had decided to use a new spell he learned the week before, Serpensortia.

This spell caused a large green snake to form out of the tip of his wand and towards the frightened (y/n). Who happened to loathe snakes as she screamed in terror.

The snake had started hissing at her, but to her it sounded like words, saying 'Quit the screaming wizard scum'
(y/n) had thought it was Draco talking to her so she told him to 'Shut up and exterminate the bloody reptile.'

The snake didn't like that very much, responding with 'I'm not a bug you futile human' before Narcissa came and got rid of it, rushing the two inside.

That night (y/n)s mother told her she was a parseltongue. Which she thought pretty neat, considering the fact that it was extremely rare. Not even Draco could speak to snakes, and he was the human equivalent of one.

Her mother warned them both not to let anyone know about her newfound ability, so they hadn't spoken about it since.

But that all had happened early July. It was now late August, a week away from Hogwarts. So speaking to snakes became the last thing on everyone's mind.

"Come you two stay close." Lucius said looking back at the two as they made their way through Knockturn Alley. It wasn't one of (y/n)s favourite streets, filled with very questionable witches and wizards, most of which probably practiced the dark arts.

They finally reached the old store Borgin and Burkes, it was dim with little light, packed to the brim with various wizarding artifacts, (some of which seemed to be untouched while others old and ragged.)

"Take a look at this dump." (y/n) nudged Draco grinning. He looked at her, his smile he previously wore faltering, "I think it's rather fascinating."

(y/n) shrugged her shoulders and walked past him into the store, at the back of the store there was a loud creak by a wardrobe.

Draco was admiring some old artifact before Lucius slammed his cane beside his hand.

"Don't touch anything Draco," he narrowed his eyes at (y/n), "Same goes for you (y/n), you're no exception." Still under his gaze she backed away from some creepy looking skeleton.

"Mister Malfoy what a pleasure to see you again!" The shop owner from the front desk exclaimed, clapping his hands, "Oh and young master Malfoy with little Miss (l/n) what a delight."

Draco and Lucius walked up to the front desk. (y/n) took it as a chance to sneak away and investigate the sound by the wardrobe.

Making sure no one was paying attention to her she carefully opened it, cringing when it creaked. Only to be met with some with a familiar pair of green eyes. He put a finger to his lips and backed away slightly, fear evident in his features.

"Potter?" She questioned dumbstruck, "What are you doing here?"

"Shopping for a late birthday present?" He said with a minor grin, (y/n) rolled her eyes at him shaking her head.
"You do know where you are right?"

"Not exactly, it was my first time using flu powder you see-

She shoved her hand over his mouth, Draco seemed to have exited his conversation with his father. "You're such an idiot Potter." She muttered quietly before quickly closing the wardrobe.
