Farkle put his hand on the door handle and stopped.
"Maya, you don't understand. It's not just that. It's.. " he sighed ", it's more complex than that. Just forget it..." he walked into his dark bedroom.
"No, come on. Just tell me, what is it?" She looked at him, searching for the answer in his eyes. She followed him into the room.
"Don't push it, Maya."
"Farkle, seriously? Come on. You should know by now that you can talk to me about anything. How about we just sit down and-"
"It's my dad, Maya! There. Are you happy? My parents had a big argument and he left. He left us!" Maya stood there stunned at his outburst, even more so by what he said.
She knew his pain, the small ache in the pit of his stomach.
Farkle sat on the edge of his king sized bed running his hands through his hair, cursing. Maya walked towards him, slowly so to not scare him. She sat on the space next to him as they both stared at the floor, thinking in the silence, deciding what to say next.
"They've been arguing for weeks now. Screaming at each other, yelling, they wouldn't even care if I was still in the room. They could shout over anything."
Maya looked at her friend and saw nothing but hurt and sadness in his eyes.
"Farkle, you don't have to-"
"No, it's okay. Someone better know."
She did nothing but allow him time to speak. Perhaps this would be good for him, to get it all out.
"Last night, they were screaming at each other again. My mom was crying through her anger. Then the front door was slammed shut and after that all I heard was her sobs. He won't be back for three weeks now."
He wanted to know Maya's reaction, though he thought it better to focus on his hands instead and let her absorb the information.
After a few minutes of silence, Farkle grew worried about Maya's reaction. She'd never been this quiet for this long. He turned to face her only to see that she was already looking at him.
"My dad left when I was 5, he disappeared and never came back. He started a new life with a new family and left me behind. I won't let that happen to you too." They both had tears falling now.
They talked for an hour about their dads and the contrasts between their lives. Maya had never spoken to someone like this, not even Riley.
It shocked them both to see how much the other had opened up.

I've been listening to Sabrina carpenters songs all day, I think I've gone insane.
Plus I tried to scam my parents and had a panic attack because I always get caught.
Yay me.
Anyways. Enjoy, my lovely bagel children x
