Meeting x At x Phase x One
Within the constricting walls of the first phase of the Hunter Exam, there wasn't much to look at--so when a young boy performed a swift maneuver with a fishing pole to retrieve a fellow examinee's briefcase, it gathered the attention of a certain white-haired boy. He skateboarded over to his side.
"I'm Killua," he said, watching them intently but with an emotion not easily placed.
"I'm Gon!" shouted the green boy, eyes alight with wonder and containing a purity uncommon in the world.
Noticing the spotlight fall onto her, the girl with pink braided hair flushed and looked askance. "I-I'm... Usagi," she said, her golden eyes finding something very interesting with her shoes.
From beside them, Killua spoke. "Gon? Usagi?" He paused, his gaze shifting between the two of them as they jogged alongside one-another. He kicked the board, sending it flying into his hand as he caught it with ease. "I guess I'll stick around you two."
Testing x Gate
"Oh, Killu, you just don't understand, do you?" Kikyo sighed, her lips puckered as she spoke in a high, melodic tone.
Killua sucked in a shaky gulp of air, his hands quivering when he looked up at her. When he spoke, he gave away none of it. "I'd understand a lot more if you told me what's going on."
At that, his mother paused. He could only assume she was staring at him, but the mask over her eyes made it impossible to read her face beyond her lips--which she seemed to be chewing the inside of, he thought.
"Well," she began, her fingertips curling into her skirt, "the Ametsuchi Family... follows the same line of work that we do, so, naturally, we find ourselves in contact from time to time. It just so happens that, due to our generosity towards them, they have accumulated a... quite onerous debt to our family."
He furrowed his brow, dried blood cracking on his face as he did so. "A debt? But what does that have to do with my friend?"
She pursed her lips. "They are repaying us with one of their daughters, Killu. A future wife for you, by the name of Sachiko."
"Sachiko?!" he blurted.
"Yes, Killu."
"Why not Usagi?"
Kikyo straightened upright, her lips curling into a deepset scowl that dug into her features. "Because that thing is an abomination, and we won't make the mistake of getting involved with it again. That creature will not be marrying the heir to the Zoldyck Estate--you're our prize, Killu. We will not accept garbage to repay their debt, and that's final."
Sister x Trouble
Enveloping Sachiko was an aura of darkness that permeated the atmosphere of the seemingly-content Heavens Arena. When she smiled, it didn't reach her narrowed eyes. "I would kill you, but it would be a waste of time," she said, her tone low and filled with honey. "How has your little tantrum been treating you? Have you gotten it all out of your system? It has been two years, Usagi, and father isn't too pleased."
"What?!" Usagi hissed. Not a moment after the word left her tongue did Sachiko press the tip of a knife to her throat.
Sachiko's eyes, while not conveying any depth of emotion, managed to stare directly into her sister. "I don't recall giving you permission to speak."
"Hey!" shouted Killua, his voice knocking the two girls out of their bubble. He grabbed Sachiko's arm and pulled her off of Usagi, releasing her.
Her scarlet eyes widened when she saw him, and then her lips spread into a kind-hearted grin. "You must be Killua!" she mused, shocking the three of them with her voice. It wasn't that she sounded too happy, or that her eyes remained devoid of emotion, or that she gestured too wildly--it was that she sounded normal. Her voice, her cadence, everything. In that moment, she was a normal girl.
