You can only look at the ceiling for too long before it gets boring; however, Usagi found a great way to avoid this phenomenon—sleeping like the dead at all hours of the day. On the rare occasion that she did wake, her high fever made it impossible to do much at all, if anything. Hell, she couldn't even sit upright without her stomach churning and head pounding.
So she laid on the bed, gazing lazily at the ceiling through the sweltering heat of her sickness, begging for it all to go away. The sweat ran down her forehead and stung her eyes, taking away the one thing she could do.
Time was an illusion, but only for her. Outside of the door, Killua sat on the floor, back against the wall and wrists resting against his knees. He wasn't looking at anything, opting rather to have his eyes unfocus until his surroundings morphed into dull shapes and colors until he blinked, after which he'd repeat the process.
Alluka didn't speak to him—she couldn't fully grasp the situation at hand, but she knew enough that her brother was unhappy and didn't want to be comforted. Instead, she sat in his room and played with her toys for as long as they kept her entertained.
Kurapika had to leave—he had started an underground group to find the remaining eyes of his brethren, and there was a rumor passed by one of his associates that the Hunter Association was looking for him. Though he wanted to make sure Usagi was okay, there was nothing left for him to do there.
Leorio didn't sleep—not only was he doing everything in his power to help Usagi heal as quickly and comfortably as possible, he also had to study for his exams in school. He was still technically a student, after all.
And Chi was gone.
Nobody knew where Chi went, and as far as Killua was concerned, he didn't care. There was something about her that didn't sit right with him—this woman, this stranger, shows up one day after Usagi has been missing for two months only to say that she knows exactly where she is and why... and yet did nothing about it? It rubbed him the wrong way, and he couldn't shake the feeling that she was dodging him purposefully. It also didn't help that she was Usagi's sister, even though she'd never mentioned any sister other than—
No.
Don't even think her name.
His fingernails dug into his palm, and his eyes regained focus.
Right as Chi stepped out of the room behind him.
"Oh, hey," she said, shutting the door behind her with a click. Without wasting another word, she stepped around him and made her way down the hall.
"Where are you going?" Killua asked, glaring at her out of the corner of his eye.
The cat-ears atop her vibrantly green hair swiveled, and she paused. "I'm going to grab Usagi some fresh clothes."
He watched her trot away until she had slipped through the door to Usagi's unused room. Brows furrowing, he jerked his attention back to his hands as his lips pursed tightly.
Chi shut the door behind her, closing her eyes and urging the tenseness to ease from her shoulders; she touched the choker around her neck, pinching at the gemstone in the center before continuing on with her task. Opening the closet door, she pulled out a pair of fresh clothes from her drawers before heading back into the hall, adjusting her straight-forward path around Killua's crumpled form, and entering the makeshift hospital room.
Prior to pulling her from the Ametsuchi estate, the group had decided that it would be best to treat her from home in order to keep Sachiko or Magnus from finding her--but afterwards, once the fear of being found and the anxiety of knowing they could find her anyway settled in, it became a matter of not being asked what was wrong by outsiders.
