"Large vanilla latte for you

"Large vanilla latte for you." Hoseok placed the warm coffee cup in front of the older male. "And a medium iced white chocolate mocha for me." He held the drink up, subtly shaking it's content.

"Just medium? It's cold why are you drinking iced?" The other questioned with a raised brow.

"I can't finish large and I order the same drink no matter the weather. Don't judge with your plain vanilla latte." The brunet scoffed defensively, pulling both of them into a fit of laughter.

"Thanks, Hoseok." Yoongi smiled, bringing the cup close to his nose and taking a whiff of the familiar coffee scent that he loved so much. "I'll pay you next time when I have my wallet with me."

"What kind if shitty date would I be if I asked you out and made you pay?" The younger laughed before taking a sip from his straw, pushing the slice of chocolate cake toward the other male. "Here. I got this for you."

The mint head sighed, nodding. "Thanks again, Hoseok."

"It's just coffee and cake, no need—"

"No." Yoongi cut him off. "Thank you for cheering me up. It's been a horrible day but you made it somewhat better. You're really sweet." He wasn't usually very honest about his thoughts but his emotional state took a bit of a toll on him.

The brunet widened his eyes, not at all expecting a compliment, until a smile crossed his face at the sight of the other's strawberry cheeks.

"Just eat your cake before you start confessing your undying love for me." He teased, the older scoffing with a laugh.

They continued on like that for the next hour or so. It surprisingly wasn't as awkward as they both expected. Sure there were moments where they silently drank their coffees after ending a topic but it wasn't bad for two people who've never interacted before yesterday.

Once Yoongi was finished with his dessert, he felt the need to explain to Hoseok what that whole crying scene was about.

"Can I tell you something, Hoseok?" The mint head asked, protectively clasping his fingers around his coffee cup. "You don't have to listen if you don't want to. I just wanna say it out loud."

Hoseok nodded. "Of course I'd listen. Go ahead, I'm all ears."

The older followed the brunet's action before taking a shaky breath. "God, this is harder than I thought." He laughed quietly.

"Take your time." The taller insisted.

Yoongi appreciated his patience— another thing to add to the list of reasons why he liked the male.

"My parents... It's my parents' death anniversary today." He stated, focusing on the cup's lid, noticing the small traces of coffee droplets after drinking through the spout. "It's been two years. I'm still not over it. I know I should be like everyone else but—"

"Don't say that." Hoseok stopped him, furrowing his brows. "Everyone has their own pace for everything, Yoongi. Especially healing. Don't compare your stages. You have your story and they have theirs."

That lifted a small weight off of Yoongi's chest. He didn't know he needed to hear those words. It was reassuring and comforted him more than it should.

He gave a tight-lipped smile before continuing. "Jimin's the closest to family I have left. Each anniversary, I distract myself with school work— just a full day of working on my assignments. It's unhealthy and I always end up worrying him but I wanna start changing that. I loved— still love my parent but I think I wanna start letting go."

Hoseok let him finish while his own thoughts ran through his head. It had only been two days yet the guilt in his stomach only seemed to pile up the more he spent his time with the older.

But that apparently wasn't enough to stop his selfish plan.

Yoongi was now focusing on the porcelain plate with bits of chocolates along with the remains of frosting on the silver fork. It was hard to hold in his second wave of tears of the day while awaiting a response from the younger—which he really wasn't expecting to come.

That was until he opened his mouth.

"I'm proud of you." Hoseok reached out, gently taking the mint head's hand into his slightly smaller one. "I'm glad you're doing something for yourself. I'm here now if you ever need to talk about these things."

The older switched his eyes from the hand on his own to the other's eyes, searching for any sign of insincerity. He couldn't find any— at least none that he was able to see— which pulled a shy smile on his face.

Telling someone other than Jimin was a step to healing.

And he was glad that someone was Hoseok.
