I rolled over and pushed my hands under my body for balance. I let out a groan as I finally found my footing, even though I could barely stand. Looking around me, I began to survey the area, it looked like the men had left, and I wasn't taking my chances on staying here for them to find me.
This was the 4th time this week that someone's tried to attack me. And there's no doubt about it now. I'm getting on someone's radar in a bad way. And I have a pretty good idea who it is.
I turned my head towards Christian and he returned with a strange look on his face. "Surprised? So am I..." He reveals and my brows creased as I try to find my footing. My left leg was throbbing in pain that I could barely que in on what was happening. Christian is here! I.....I have no words, I don't even know what to say! I'm speechless!
"....Well?...." He comments as he brushes off specks of dirt from his jacket. I shake my head I'm disbelief. I still hasn't hit me that Christian is...well.. alive and well, let alone safe!
"Well what?" I shrugged as I began walking cautiously away from the ditch. I look around to make sure that none of those guys are around. I limped my way out of the ditch before he followed, trying to help me walk but I quickly shut him out.
"I just saved your life. A little thank you would be nice..." He says, with a surprising hint of arrogance.
"Yeah? Well next time be nice to my knee. I can't even feel my leg..." I complain, unappreciative to the fact that he has just saved me.
"Be grateful I saved you. If you had that laser targeted at you for a moment longer, you would've been roadkill" he adds. I chuckled at his remark and shook my head at this repetitive theme that I'm always in need of help.
"Same old Christian, huh? Wanting to be a hero?" I reminisced, albeit a little harshly, but I didn't care.
"I don't exactly know where we left off so I don't whether I should thank you for saving me, or kick your ass for not seeing you for this long! I was left to think the worst had happened to you! Where the hell have you been all this time?" I added with frustration.
It was clear from the very moment I saw him that something had changed within him. But I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was."You don't need to know...." Was all the answer he gave me, in a cold and harsh tone. That was more than enough to confirm my suspicion that this wasn't the same Christian. He was completely different, everything about his tone towards me was wrong.
I took a deep breath at his remark and calmed myself, still trying to find my balance. "Something's changed in you. You're not the same guy...." I stated before I tried to regain my footing but he pain was too much. I found myself collapsing onto the floor as I groaned my pain. I attempt to stand back up and eventually did before almost falling into Christian's awaiting arms.
Once I finally found my balance, I let go of him and attempted to compose myself. At least now I know this is real, it wasn't just a dream. This was happening. Christian is here..... I still couldn't believe my eyes.
"Looks like you seem to know what this all about. Why don't you tell me what the hell is going on?" I asked in a monotoned voice as my continue to readjust my stance. 4 times in a week? That's no coincidence if you asked me.
The look on his face revealed that he didn't expect me to know what was happening. He exhaled a deep breath and spoke up. "I'll explain later but right now, your hurt, and you need to just trust..." He admitted before I cut him off abruptly.
"Trust who? You? You literally disappeared for 3 years, without a trace... I was left alone, not knowing where you were or whether you were alive!" I slightly raised my voice toward him.
