"I had always read about them. I never thought I would ever see one. Hellhounds are considered omens of death. Seeing one isn't necessarily something you brag about. But my trip to Greece found me encountering one.
The Hellhound, also known as the Black Dog or the Bearer of Death, is a species of amortal supernatural spirits who possesses the bodies of humans upon being reborn on Earth in order to complete their destined missions. They possess pyrokinetic and thermokinetic powers and are said to be the guardian of the supernatural world, making it their duty to make sure this world remains a secret to the human world. They are neither good nor evil, being utterly neutral and focused only on their "natural" duty......."
"Hey did you know my dad met a hellhound when he was in Greece?" I said looking up from the journal.
I was on the more recent entries now. This one was an entry from during his trip to Athens which was Two and a half years ago. Most of it was like a more in-depth folklore lesson. I had learned most of this stuff in my dad's class but this was more real. Based on personal experience and knowledge passed down from Wilson to Wilson.
"What are we even rescuing?" I asked putting the book back into my bag.
"Did you not read the file I gave you?" Xander asked glancing back at me through the rear-view mirror of the jeep as we drove away from the airport.
Our mission had brought us to Lefkada. One of the Ionian Islands separated from mainland Greece by a trench. That was all I remembered from Xander's debriefing right before I fell asleep.
"I may have left the file on my bed." I shrugged.
"Here you go birdie." Kenji smiled at me passing me a manila folder with Greece typed on the front.
Marina Valaoritis, 20 year old captive of the hunter family. Siren.... Wait we're here to rescue a mermaid?" I looked up from her description form at the two guys in the front seat.
"Not Disney mermaids Sirens are a little more deadly."
"Of course they are. You're forgetting I had a folklore professor as a dad and did it as a minor. Or was doing it. Anyway, I know what a Siren is and that doesn't stop me from still wishing I was one. Lurering men to their deaths seems like a really cool thing to do."
"That's not terrifying at all." Xander mumbled.
"They can use their voices to sing a wordless song that can manipulate a human's feelings or actions, depending on its intentions; this can range from influencing a person to defend the mermaid from others, attracting a human to them, or compelling them to stop an action. Do you know how awesome that is?" I asked
"Well this hunter family is using that as a weapon against other supernatural creatures." Xander said.
"And you have a phoenix song too birdie." Ken put in.
"I do?"
"You're a bird of course you do. I mean sure you don't lure sailors to their demise but it's still a song." He shrugged.
"You sure know how to make a girl feel special don't you." I told him rolling my eyes.
We drove to a little house hidden among trees a little way outside Lefkada city. Ken and Xander unloaded our bags from the car and took them inside. The roof is flat and is covered with brown roof tiles. One large chimney sits at the side of the house. Many smaller windows let in plenty of light to the rooms below the roof. The house itself is surrounded by a tranquil garden, with various flowers, a long pond including a small waterfall and various rock formations. I stepped into the house and took it in.
