Call of The Inner Wolf

Chapter 13

It has been two weeks since Stitches death, and since I was announced a member of the pack with my new name, Snow. I have been learning to control my transformation with Ash and Gray. Eve tells me stories about how they all ended up here, and when they all first knew when they were werewolves. In all of those two weeks Patch was always up stairs in her room. She never comes out to eat, we would have to bring it to her and leave it at her door, she doesn't even want to talk to us anymore. Eve tries to talk to her but Patch screams at her and says 'go away I don't want to talk to anybody right now'. But what she really means is ' I don't want to speak to anybody, I just need to be alone'. Me and Gray are now officially mates, but we haven't told anyone yet because I'm worried about how Ash will react because he's my uncle and he acts like my father.

Today is hunting day for the pack where we all change into wolves and go find some elk, deer, or moose. We're only going to bring home a elk and deer or maybe two elk or two deer depends on what we find and how the hunting goes.

"Ready for your first hunting day Snow?" Ash asked me.

"I'm a bit nervous but I'll try my best not to screw up the hunt for us," I said with a laugh.

Ash looked at me and smiled.

"Well don't worry, I didn't do well on my first hunt, so don't get yourself worked up if you miss, okay," he said. "We'll be leaving in a few minutes just to see if Patch will come."

"Okay," I said.

He turned his back on me and walked into the house with Eve right behind him. When they went inside I felt something around my waist. When I turned my head I saw Gray smiling at my with his head on my shoulder.

"What are you smiling at?" I asked him.

"Mmmm nothin, just happy that you're coming on this hunt with us," he said.

I grab his hands and put them on mine and turned around and kissed on the lips. When I heard Ash's voice we pulled away from each other and acted like nothing happened.

"Well we're definitely going to have a easy hunt now that Patch is coming," Ash said.

"Patch is coming? What did you guys do to convince her?" Gray asked.

"We didn't convince her, we were about to open her door but she opened it first and told us she was ready to go," said Eve.

"Can we just get on with the hunt already," Patch said walking towards the woods.

Gray looked at me and walked to where Patch was and mouthed to me 'ready', I nodded my head and got down on all fours. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, I imagined my self as a wolf an I told myself that I was in control. Ash told me the more I change the less pain I felt, and he was right now that I know how to change I don't feel pain. After I told myself I was in control I opened my eyes and looked down and saw white wolf paws. I have changed. I looked around and saw that everyone else has changed. I could tell who was who by the way they looked and smelt. I saw Ash in front of us as he took the lead to find a herd of elk or deer.

We headed out early in the morning and now it was noon. the sun was high above us. By the looks of it we've been out here for hours trying to find a single heard. I looked around me to see if I could scent anything. Nothin. A few minutes passed when Ash shot his head up and put his nose high in the air. He turned his head back to us and signalled us with his tail to split up. I went with Ash and Eve so I could learn a few things from them and see how we hunt. Eve signalled with her tail for me to stop, her ears were and and her body was stiff as a rock

'You hear that Snow, its elk, we found the heard'

I looked at Eve with confusion. I didn't hear any elk.

Snap

I heard a twig snap to my left. I looked and saw about hundreds of elk grazing out in a open area in the woods. On the other side of the heard I saw Patch and Gray standing really still looking at us waiting for Ash's signal. Then Ash let out a really loud howl then we all ran at the elk on both sides. The elk were really confused at the noise but when we got close to them they started to stamped. Eve was biting at a big bull elk at the back of the herd while the others were chasing a straggler. When I caught up to Eve I saw blood on the side of the elks leg.

'She wounded him, good this will be easy' I thought to myself.

I jumped up at the elk and took a big bite out of his leg. The elk lets out a scream and stopped dead in his tracks. The bull reared up and started kicking his hooves and waved his antlers at us. Eve let out a vicious snarl at the elk.

'Snow, I'll distract the bull then when you have a clear shot of the throat go in and take him down. I'm counting on you to kill this thing before it kills us with his antlers.'

I looked at Eve and nodded my head. She started barking at the bull and ran at him to try and bite his legs. When Eve bit him on his back leg he reared up with his head high. I jumped up towards his neck I bit down and I held my grip. He swung his head fiercely but up used my front paws to dig in his shoulders to make him loose his balance. Then a few seconds later he fell of the ground with a loud thud, I released my grip and looked down on the bull.

'Well done Snow,not bad for your first time'

I nodded my thanks to Eve and looked to where the others were. They were dragging a another bull over. They all looked down at the one me and Eve got and Ash came over and gave me an approving nod.

'You did well Snow, that's a good size one you got their.'

He went over to the front of my elk and pick up the head. I went over to the back and got a leg, so did Eve. We all carried the elks back home, we took a quick break on the way back. we didn't get back till almost sundown. We took the elks I the the garage and we each went one at a time into the shed to change back and put on clothes. by the time I was done everyone else was already in the garage hanging up the elk so they could skin them. Eve told me to come with her and Patch to the house so we can start making sandwiches for supper. were weren't having elk tonight cause they save up the meat they get in months when it's warm and eat it in the winter.

When the boys got back from skinning we each got a sandwich or two and ate in the living room and we all told stories about the hunt.

"You should have seen her, she flew right up to that elks throat and brought it down like you wouldn't believe. She used her front paws to sink her nails into the elks shoulder and then it was on the ground. I have never seen a kill like that in my life, that was very impressing," Eve said to everyone as we were eating.

Everyone was looking at me and my face was burning I swear it felt like it was going to melt away.

After we were all finished eating everyone went upstairs to go to bed after that exhausting hunt. When I made sure no one was looking I kissed Gray before he left to go to bed. When I went it my room I flopped down on my bed exhausted and sore I struggled to put on my pjs. When I finally put them on I just lied on top of my covers and I fell asleep instantly.
