Sofia's POV

Death. Everybody's afraid of it. Doesn't matter how old you're or how much you've been through, when you're about to die your first instinct is to try to prevent it. No one wants to die when there's so much to live for.

I. Don't. Want. To die.

Three hours of pain until it stopped. Even though I didn't moved or said anything, I felt the excruciating pain every second of it while it lasted. I was laid down. My body resting over my belly. I'm sleepy. I'm tired. My mom came to my side, she said something I couldn't understand and then she closed my eyes, I think that I'm in shock. It took a while for the painkillers to kick in. I still felt some pain, but it wasn't as bad as before. I slowly fell into a deep slumber and the pain was fading away.

Dereck's POV

I opened my eyes.

I remember that I was doing paper work with dad when the pain started. He took me to the hospital and then I kind of went into a deep trance trying to block out the horrible pain.

This room is different. I remember that the room I was in had white walls, but in this one the walls were painted green. My vision was a little blurry. I felt slightly heavier. I took out the wires that were connected to me and sat up to the right facing the wall. I felt a little dizzy, but recovered fast. Finally my vision cleared and I stood up. I feel different. There's something on my back, I can feel it, or feel them. With my right hand I slowly reached to the objects on my back. They felt soft, warm, kind of like feathers. Wait. They're feathers!

I ran to the bathroom to look at myself in the mirror.

"HOLY SHIT!" I shouted as I saw them. I have wings! Fucking real wings!

I ran out of the room, too shocked to try to find out who was laying on the bed next to me or to look at the person that was sleeping on the couch. I went to mom's lab, but she wasn't there, though the scientists that were there stared at me in awe an ran after me as I turned around to run heading to the waiting room. When I got there, every one gasped and stood up, including my father. James's family were also there.

"Dad..dad...I-I..h-have wings." When the scientists reached me, my dad gave them a look and some kind of signal with his head and they went back to the lab. Then a thought came to my mind, Sofia! Where is she? Is she the other patient in the green room? Then I ran back to the room and they were all yelling at me to stop, but I didn't listened, I wanted to find out if she was here. Did she went through the same as I did? I hope not.

Sofia's POV

I heard noise, shouts and footsteps in the distance. I slowly opened my eyes. My vision was blurry. Thank God that the lights were low. I felt heavy, like if I had something on my back. Pieces of what happened flashed through my mind. The party, the pain, the blood, it was all fresh in my mind. I was connected to some machines. I got the wires off of me and stood up. The noises were getting closer and I got dizzy and fell on the floor. Then a pair of warm and soft arms wrapped around me and helped me stand up. I turned around and saw him. The blonde guy who I love and also hurt me earlier. He hugged me tight slipping his arms around my waist.

"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I shouldn't have said those things to you. You didn't deserved any of that. I'm such an asshole. It was stupid! I got jealous and I wasn't thinking." He said and I felt warm tears running down my shoulder, they were his. I was mad at him and hurt. All I wanted to do was talk with him and he hurt me. That anger faded away at his apology. Somehow I knew that he was truly sorry about what he said and that he didn't mean any of that. I wrapped my arms over his shoulders and he relaxed.

"Shh. Its okay. I forgive you." I whispered in his left ear. He nodded not being able to talk. We stood like that for a while until we finished crying.

Minutes later I looked at Dereck and gasped in surprise and saw a blurry reflection of myself on the glass from the window. I went to look at myself on the mirror and screamed in horror.

"WHAT THE HELL?!!!"

"Sofia-" My dad started, but cut him off by raising my hand.

"I need to be alone now. I can't stay here." I muttered and ran out of the underground base and went straight towards the library. I ran up the steps and sat on the same couch I sat before in the balcony.

James's POV

I followed her. She went to the second floor of the library and sat on a couch in the balcony. I sat next to her and we stood silent for a while looking at the breaking dawn.

"Why me?" She said still looking at the raising sun on the horizon.

"I don't know, but we're going to find out." I promised her and she moved closer to me resting her head on my left shoulder and playing with my right hand. I placed my left arm around her and stood silent watching the show Mother Nature was playing for us.
