Haejun flinched when he heard the lunch bell ring and got up quickly to go back inside. He wasn't able to spend lunch with Kiandra like usual because she had to meet with a teacher about an assignment.
So of course, he did what he normally did when Kiandra wasn't there.
Which was sketching pretty things outside in the courtyard.
Last time he drew the fountain and this time he decided to draw the flower bed. Haejun had become so engrossed in his art he didn't realize the lunch period was already over.
Haejun smiled to himself softly at the thought of seeing his crush during class.
He went to his locker to grab his backpack and soon found himself seated in the back of the class a bit early.
He took out his homework from the day before and waited for the second bell to ring. He noticed that Elijah entered the class a bit later than usual.
..He looks annoyed..
Haejun was caught off guard by Elijah meeting his eyes and offering him a warm smile.
Fuck- He caught me staring.
Haejun felt his cheeks redden and his eyes widen as he hurriedly looked back down at his desk.
Finally the teacher entered the classroom right on time with the bell. "Alright everyone! Put yesterday's assignment on my desk and while you're up here, pick up one of these popsicle sticks."
Everyone stood up in confusion and followed her instructions. Haejun was stuck at the back of the crowd and when he finally got to the front he saw there was one stick left.
He pulled it out and examined it, finding a number 4 written on it.
"Okay everyone, stand up and find the person who has the same number as you. Then sit down next to them!"
Haejun, being the ever-so-awkward person he was, decided to just wait for everyone to find their partners from his desk.
Elijah noticed that everyone had found their partners except for one girl. And although he didn't hate his partner, something told him to do something else.
The girl was about to approach Haejun when Elijah stopped her and whispered something to her. The girl looked confused, but traded popsicle sticks with him anyways.
And so, Haejun was definitely surprised when the male approached him and stood in front of his desk.
"Hey." Elijah spoke.
"H-Hi." Haejun managed to stutter out.
"What number is on your popsicle stick?" Elijah asked, putting his on the desk for Haejun to read.
"I-I.. um.. have four written on m-mine, too." Haejun put his popsicle stick down as well.
"I guess that makes us partners then. Right? Soulmates almost." Elijah spoke with a quiet laugh and Haejun felt like he was going to explode.
Soulmates.. I'd love to be your soulmate..
"Everyone! Please bring your attention back to me." Mrs.Patel clapped her hands,"It seems like everyone has their pairs, so let's get started."
The teacher turned around pulled out a pile of papers.
"We're going to be doing a finance assignment. That looks at bills, taxes, and the like. You and your partner are going to either be roommates, a newly-wed couple, or a family who has to account for two kids. Whatever's circled at the top is the one you are."
She walked around the room and put the papers on the desk.
Elijah collected theirs from her hand and smirked,"So we're married. Should we get rings?" He joked and Haejun almost said yes.
"You and your partner will have a week and a half to complete this assignment outside of class. But we will have a few in class workshop days so you can ask questions. I expect a presentation with graphs by the end of this, get to work discussing."
Elijah sat back in his chair and turned to look at Haejun,"So.. your place, or mine?"
