(TW: Blood, gunshot mention, mentioned sexual assault attempt)
'What did I do? Why is this happening? Did I deserve this?' I thought as I laid on the ground, bleeding out. 'I shouldn't have went to work today...'
I had to walk home today, but I had no idea i'd get shot for walking down the street. It was almost pitch black outside, and I couldn't move. Nobody knew I was here. For the most part, monsters were widely accepted after they came to the surface. Although, there were always going to be those people who wouldn't accept people for who they are, that didn't stop anyone, especially me. I had many monster friends, hell, my boyfriend is a literal fire man. I guess that was why I was followed, and shot.
"Grillby..." I only had enough energy to whisper.
I had been sitting, at Grillby's, 'talking' to the owner by the name of Grillby. We'd actually met months prior, at the opening of his establishment on the surface; I was a journalist, and was there to cover the place. I became the first regular, that wasn't a monster, and eventually became Grillby's friend. I had been ranting to him about someone who tried to sexually assault me, and nobody did anything.
"...If it happens again... Let me know..." The somewhat gruff voice that came from the monster startled me.
"I will." I told him with a smile.
I always did tell him, and whenever I did, his flames flared up slightly in anger; I loved that about him. I remember I was the one to ask him out on the first date.
I had walked into Grillby's, and as always, Grillby was standing behind his counter. Today, I decided, I was finally gonna ask him out. I'd noticed my feelings for the monster a few days prior. I sat in the stool directly in front of him, and I could tell I had his attention.
"Hey, G." I smiled, and Grillby waved. "So, I need to ask you a question, that okay?" I asked, and felt my face get warmer. Grillby nodded, so I spoke "Do you, I dunno... Wanna go on a date?" I could tell my face was fairly flushed.
I briefly saw Grillby freeze in his movements, and I could've sworn his face became slightly brighter. He bashfully covered his face with one of his hands, but he still nodded.
"How about tomorrow? At the park maybe?" I asked, a small smile still on my face.
Grillby nodded.
He was so sweet on that date too... and all of our other dates; I remember when it started raining one time.
Grillby and I had been walking in the park, and I had noticed the clouds growing greyer over time. I knew he had been too.
"G, we need to go." I spoke, somewhat worried, as the man is made of fire.
Grillby nodded, and he grabbed my hand. I was surprised, as he didn't burn me. He started sprinting to the nearest sheltered area, which was a bus stop. I sighed as we sat down on the bench inside.
"So, you could've held my hand this whole time?" I asked, then continued "How do you not burn me?"
"....Magic...." Grillby only talked sparingly, but according to Sans, one of Grillby's favorite customers, i'm the only one he really speaks to.
"Oh... Is it an 'on demand' type thing?" I asked, and he nodded.
We sat in silence for a while, but I could tell Grillby was uncomfortable because of the rain. "Hey, G?" I spoke, getting his attention. He tilted his head, as if to ask 'What do you need?'. I lifted our entertwined hands, and spoke "Do you think we could become official?"
"...Of course..." Grillby said, and squeezed my hand, while putting his other hand on my face. Grillby set his forehead on mine, and we stayed like that until the rain went away.
I loved him so much... It'll be 2 years since that day tomorrow. I feel bad that I wont be able to tell him 'Happy anniversary!' tomorrow morning. Last year's anniversary was less than ideal, and neither would this year's be.
Grillby and I had been walking in the park, when some random woman, who looked drunker than she should be, approached us.
"Heeeeeeyyyyyy... Whhyy's a fffinnee personn likee youu out with a monnsterrr?" The woman's words were horribly slurred, as she grabbed my wrist.
I felt Grillby's hand tighten around mine, "Um... Ma'am, i'd like you to let go of me, please." I told the drunk girl.
"Whyy shhould I?" she slurred again.
I could tell Grillby was trying to keep his cool, "Because, ma'am, you're making me uncomfortable." I told her.
"I'M makinng yyou unncomfortablee? Not the mmonsterr nextt to youu?!" The woman became slightly aggressive with her speech.
"With all due respect, ma'am-" I started speaking again, when I was interrupted, "Ma'am... If you don't leave them alone... I won't hesitate to call the authorities." Grillby spoke, and I could tell he was seething, but kept a calm facade.
Both mine and the drunk owman's jaws dropped, and he quickly ran. That had been the longest I had heard Grillby speak at once. "Thank you, Grillby." I said, giving him a small smile.
"...Anything for you... Love..." Grillby spoke.
"I love you, G..." I mumbled as everything became black.
~30 minutes prior~
Once Grillby arrived home, he looked around for [Y/N], only to find the house empty. It worried him, as they were supposed to be home hours ago. He checked his phone for a message that said they were working late, there wasn't a single message. He became worried. Grillby decided to go see if they were still at work, and left the house once again. He illuminated the semi-dark sidewalk as the walked, and when he was half-way there, he saw his worst nightmare.
[Y/N], laying on the ground, blood everywhere. He heard a slight whisper from them, "I love you, G..." and he sprinted to them.
Many thoughts ran through his head as he picked them up, not really caring about the blood being soaked up by his clothes. He panicked, calling 911. Afterwards, he pulled [Y/N] close, and put pressure on their wound.
"Wake up, darling... please." Grillby whispered, his usual calm tone now sounding scared. "I love you so much, [Y/N]."
Unfortunately, the ambulance was too late. He didn't know what to do, he wanted to spend the rest of his life with them, and now they were dead. By the time he arrived home that night, it was already past midnight, meaning it was his and [Y/N]'s anniversary, or what would've been. As Grillby sat down on his bed, he pulled a small box from a drawer. He opened it, and there sat an engagement ring.
He was going to propose, but of course, life had other plans, and it ruined him.

That little bit at the end felt a little rushed, but I actually enjoyed writing this over the past few days. (I started writing this the same day I wrote the Mike oneshot) Also, I almost cried when I came up with the proposal part. Grillby is one of my favorite Undertale characters, along with Papyrus, Asgore, and W.D Gaster, so I hope I did him well. By the way, Grillby can actually speak, he does so in the true pacifist ending, although, he only says "........Good job......". Anyways, thanks for reading! Derpy out. (This whole note was left unedited :>)
