After Andrew and I get the mattress inside I shower and get dressed in my nice gray slacks, with a thin black sweater, my black belt, and dress shoes. After I'm all ready I grab my keys, set the alarm, and head out to my car.
I swing by and grab Noah on the way to the restaurant. When he gets in the car I ask if anything happened with him and Kate.
"We shared an uber but Emma decided to stay at Kate's because it was closer and she was ready to pass out. So we didn't have any time alone on the way home. When we talked at your house it seemed like there's a possibility of something. We'll see."
"So you like her, you're just too chicken shit to ask her out?"
"Maybe. She's a hot, sophisticated woman. She kind of scares the crap out of me."
"And you're a good-looking, professional man who deserves to be happy. Why don't you ask her to the gala? I plan on asking Lily. "
"Yeah, maybe. So are you excited about starting work Monday?"
"Yeah. I liked my old firm but it's nice to be back home and I'm excited about the change. So you like the people there?"
"Of course. I wouldn't have suggested you for the job if I wasn't happy there myself. The people are great and the whole environment is relaxed and fun but still professional."
"Good. I am glad we're doing this tonight. It'll be nice to know a few faces other than yours when I walk in there Monday."
We arrive at the restaurant and are seated quickly since we have a reservation and this is one of the restaurants the firm frequently uses for business meetings and events. Noah makes introductions to everyone and we all order drinks. He's right, everyone is easy to get along with and they immediately make me feel relaxed.
I really like Luke. He's very laid back and funny. He seems like he would fit right in with our group. And Betty, she's in her late forties and seems to be the cool mother figure of the group. I like her instantly. We discuss how long everyone's been at the firm and the kinds of projects they've worked on. We also talk about who's married and who has kids. It's pretty split on the marriage front and only Betty and Josh who are in their late thirties have children so far. Overall, they seem like a great group of people and I think I'll enjoy working with them.
By the time dinner is done and we finish our last round of drinks it's nine-thirty. A few of the people in the group decide to go have a few more drinks at a bar nearby. I really should join them but part of me wants to call Lily and try to meet up with her to see what she wanted to talk about. I decide I'll go have one drink and then call her.
That one drink turned into way more and neither Noah nor I should be driving home. I don't want to leave my car downtown in an unsecured lot. I check the time, it's one AM. We try to call Andrew and ask him to uber here and then drive my car home. He doesn't answer so we try Hunter. He's out with Millie. I still need to get that whole story. We decide we'll just call an uber and chance leaving my car. As I have my app open my phone rings and it's Lily.
"Hey, Lil. Dinner turned into drinks and I planned on only having one but that didn't happen. I planned on calling you after the one drink. I'm so sorry."
"Oliver, it's fine really. It was just a phone call. I'm calling because Millie called me. She told me you and Noah could use rescuing. Send me the address of the bar and I'll be there as soon as I can."
"Lily, you don't have to do that. I can just leave my car and get it in the morning."
"Really it's fine. Besides, it will give me a reason to drive that nice ass car of yours. Send me the address."
