Dan twiddled his thumbs as he waited at the hotel door, hesitating to enter. Ignoring his buzzing phone, he sighed and stepped inside before putting on a shit-eating grin. The woman at the desk looked up, before getting a huge grin on her face.

"Hello! Welcome to Hotel Overtook. How can I help you?" The woman leaned her hand on her hand, looking up at Dan with a look as if she had a gun to her back, forcing her to speak. Dan hated that people had to be forced to speak with him, yet he ignored it.

"Hi, I'm looking for a Jaz? She should have signed in?" Dan felt the buzzing in his phone stop, only for it to quickly return, vibrating in his coat pocket as he stood in front of the woman with a suitcase in his hand.

"Let me check really quick." The woman then turned and began to type on her computer. While she did this, Dan brought out his phone to see Carla was still texting him and calling him. Feeling a part of him wince, he ignored the calls and stuck it in his pocket. "I'm sorry, nobody has signed in with that name, would you like to sign in as well?" The woman looked at him sincerely, as Dan took a glance at her name tag.

"Well, Betsy, I was hoping to stay here for a little while. Put down Dan B- I mean, Dan Brown." He felt himself using Carla's last name, hoping it could trick Betsy as she hummed and returned to her computer.

"Alright, how long would you like to stay?" Betsy asked, unaware the fear that had caused the man to break down only a few hours before. He honestly didn't know the answer to her question, he just let the words fly out as he did in many other interviews with people.

"Just a few days. Maybe five." He slid the money from his pocket onto the desk as she quickly took it and put it onto a drawer before nodding to him as she reached towards another drawer full of keys.

"Room 217, sir. Have a nice day at Hotel Overtook and please enjoy the new restaurant built across the road." She looked back to her computer, her smile quickly fading as Dan turned from her, heaving a sigh and his smile disappearing as well. With the key in his pocket, he decided to step outside and lean against the tree outside of the building. Taking a breath of the humid air, he watched a car drive up as a woman with long red hair stepped out and slowly walked up to the hotel. Taking a single glance at her, they both locked eyes before he turned back into his smiling self.

"Hello, Ms, why would you happen to be standing in front of me today?" He asked, trying not to seem predator-y, just wanting to know who the woman was. The woman returned him with a slight giggle.

"Just waiting for a friend, and you, good sir?" She asked him, noticing the height difference between the two, him being decently shorter than her. Pulling her hair behind her ear, she put her weight on one foot as her bag laid against her body.

"Ah, I would happen to be doing the same. Childhood promises, ya'know?" He eased, feeling some strange relaxing aura that she brought out of the car with her. The car, by now, had driven off, leaving the woman in front of Dan with just her bag.

"Dan? It's me, Sara!" The woman realized the man in front of her was the same boy she shared her childhood with. The same boy that she had comforted on those dark times. The same boy who had called her for her to come back to the town.

"Holy shit, Sara, you're even taller!" He cracked a joke, causing her to laugh as she wrapped her arms around him. Feeling the shock of being hugged by someone else other than Carla, he hesitated before welcoming the hug. Feeling a warm feeling they haven't felt in years as tears poured from both of their eyes.
