Video Game world or some shit

Sara stared at the clerk that offered the cheaper game. This one had looked like a rip off of Mario and Sonic, making it only two dollars.
"Give me an actual game please." Rolling her eyes, she crossed her arms and shifted her weight to her other foot. "You know what, nevermind. If we keep this going your gonna offer me some type of sex game." Turning around on her foot, she turned her way back to the normal section of the store. The clerks here always tried to either give her some cheap knockoff or a straight up sex VR game.
She was about to just leave when she heard a small thunk beside her. Looking towards the noise, she saw a game almost perfectly hidden under the shelves. Grabbing it, it looked like a visual novel of some sort. Cute little animated style with what looked like a few realistic scenes. The title was simple, 'Beep Boop, I Like You'. It made her smile from the simplicity and slightly cutesy style. It was only six dollars and she could bring it back within two weeks if she didn't like it.
Gently putting the game on the desk, the clerk looked down at it curiously.
"Never seen that one before." The clerk muttered as they checked the price and scanned it. Paying for the game and waving the clerk a goodbye, Sara walked her way out of the store with a sigh. Making sure her mask was on correctly, she watched the TARC bus roll up and she made her way on. If her roommate would hurry up with borrowing the car, she wouldn't have to take the stupid bus. Pushing the coins into the machine, she made her way to the back of the bus. Watching the street move by, she sighed. This whole virus thing has been going on for a few years now. It was just socially accepted to wear a mask and not touch people. Something that affected her romantic life greatly. Online dating could only go so far. Sometimes, she just wished she was somewhere else.

Looking at the game packaging, she noticed the cutesy, school-like atmosphere of the game art made her think of something like ddlc. Putting the disc into her tower, she booted up her pc as she watched the game download. It only took a few seconds as she yawned before opening the game.
"Beep Boop!" A character giggled on the screen as the voice came out of her headphones. It seemed to be one of the people off the cover. "What's your pronouns?"
Looking at the options, she went ahead and put she/her. The character stared at her for a moment before giggling again.
"You can always go to settings and change them!" The character winked before disappearing off the screen.
The title card swished it's way onto the screen as several characters popped up and smiled at her. It seemed to have four main characters and some background ones. Either way, she smiled from the way the characters looked. You could tell their personalities, one being more shy, another seeming like a class clown, the other looked slightly snotty, and the last looking concerned, almost like a parental friend. Seemed like the basic dating sim.
It made her chuckle, reminding her of the times before the virus when artist would churn these games out like butter. That was before half the population was infected and killed. Before schools shut down then reopened only for millions of children and parent to die. Many of her peers where the ones who fell ill. Then she moved states and never looked back. Taking a sigh, she pulled her focus back to the game
Pressing start, she felt the weight of sleep on her shoulders.
'I ran as fast as I could, realizing I was late for class.' Ah, classic romance scenario. Sara listened to the text as she closed her eyes, laying her head on the desk. Thinking about the past made her head hurt.

"I ran as fast as I could, realizing I was late for class." A voice said loudly as Sara opened her eyes, seeing that she was standing with a school uniform on.
