Author Note: Holy f  u  c k. Alright, so this is weird? Plus, one of the few/only one where I am the main! Yay. I'm not a hundred percent sure of trigger warnings other than monsters and scratching so hard that someone bleeds. I didn't mind writing this, so there may be a second or third.

Waking up in another fit of tears, Dan sighed before grabbing his notebook and scribbling the dream down. How long has it been like this? Years, uncountable at this point. His dreams were turning twisted, nightmares all the time. He couldn't escape sleeping as his mother slid in sleeping pills in his food so he would sleep.

"Fuck." He mumbled, getting up as his alarm clock on his phone screamed. Grabbing his hoodie, he threw the notebook in his small checkered backpack, before pulling jeans from his drawer. Getting dressed, he opened Instagram to see the group chat with his friends flooded.

"You don't need to open it, they don't give a shit anyway." He looked up to see the creature speak to him. Tall, slender, eyes bulging out as it's mouth opened to a pit of void.

"Fuck off, big eyes." He rolled his eyes before throwing on his socks and shoes before grabbing his backpack and walking out of his room.

At school, hundreds of creatures similar to his walked behind their person. All creatures were different, embodying the person's anxiety, fears, darkest part of their mind, it mattered the person. Dan's was his self depreciation, including his fear of being left behind. Aiden's was the feeling of never being good enough. Madi's of being abandoned, you get the idea.

But, nobody could see them other than Dan. Or at least, as much as he knew. He never dared to utter a word about big eyes or the multiple other demons he watched haunt their owner.

"You good Dan?" Jaz asked, snapping the boy's attention. A giant monster loomed over her, constantly whispering.

"Yea, just tired." Dan pinched his arms, trying to stay awake. The less time you slept, the less he had to see the monsters.

"How long did you sleep?" Abby asked, concerned for him. A creature had been close to her height, it's hands always on her shoulders.

"About an hour." He sighed, disappointed he slept so long.

"That's not okay, how long have you slept this week?" Aiden asked, his creature that always grinned was sitting beside him.

"An hour or less a day, Aiden." He answered honestly, chewing the inside of his lip, his lips already always being on the verge of bleeding.

"Why?" Aiden asked, as Madi sat down next to Abby, shocked by how large the bags under Dan's eyes has grown.

"Insomnia. Anyway, I got a really funny joke-" He was cut off by hearing a monster scream. Loud. The scream was deafening, he had to fight the urge to grab his ears in pain.

"Dan? Dan?!?" Madi repeatedly said his name as he finally grabbed his ears, trying to make the noise deafen, only for it to increase in noise. The voices around him faded as the scream continued.

"DAN!" A voice broke through as the scream finally silenced. Sara had her hands on his shoulders, and had been shaking him.

"I-I'm sorry." He mumbled, seeing the creature that stood beside her, shorter than her.

"What's wrong?" He noticed that only his group of friends had been yelling and noticed him, the rest of the cafeteria filled with students and creatures talking to one another.

"I would sound crazy." Dan chuckled, trying to brush it off as he felt the creature slowly wrap it's hands around his throat.

"Tell us. We want to know, please." Sara pleaded, Madi nodding as Abby sat there mostly shocked while Jaz sat there shaking. Aiden looked confused and scared. Dan must have been mirroring his expression.
