Alex sat with Campbell, pulling her knees to her chest. "You don't really believe that I would help him kill Cassandra. Do you?" Alexandrea didn't reply. She rested her head on top of her knees, playing with her fingers. She didn't know what to believe anymore. And Dewey's words still ran through her head on a constant loop. She didn't know how to respond to his question. She didn't want to believe it. but she did. After what Sam had told the group, she believed that she was the easiest person for Campbell to manipulate. She was scared that he was trying to do it again.
"No," She lied. Still looking at her fingers. She refused to look at him. Worrying that he would be able to tell she was lying. Like he knew, from one look who she was and everything beneath the exterior. Like she was a piece of glass. In that moment, she felt like glass. Fragile, and one push away from breaking. "I'm just thinking,"
"About what he said," She nodded her head. That was the truth. It hadn't left her head. Even though she could fool Sylver, and make him think she was fine. She knew he could tell the words still haunted her. He messaged her as often as possible. Checking that she was okay, or to ask her a random question. Usually she would have found that annoying. But, she felt protected and peaceful. 'what your sister did' She gave up. The pressure of their family messing her sister up. She had to act like a mother, when all she wanted was to live her life like the age she was. Not having to look after her little sister twenty-four-seven. Not having to hide and carry the millions of secrets their family had. Her sister, had been the brave one. It was only now that Alexandrea could understand. So Alex took that as she had to be strong, just in a different way to her sister. "Don't listen to him, Alex. We need you. Allie would have gone off the rails by now, and the Guard too, if it weren't for you. Honestly, I'm surprised they didn't ask you to be the leader. You're the strongest out of all of us,"
Alexandrea looked up. Her eyes locking on his. He was telling the truth. Either that, or he really was the master manipulator. But she could tell. It was the same way she could tell when they were little kids. He'd play with the hem of his shirt. He had to go against his own morals to tell the truth, making him nervous. "Thank you," She mumbled, looking back down at her fingers. She didn't know how ese to respond. She didn't agree that she was the strongest. But didn't have the will power to argue. Her phone buzzed beside her and she picked it up to see a text from Sylver.
S: Clark is coming up now to take shift. After, come to the church.
She smiled at the message, and soon after there was a knock at the door. Clark walked in a smile on his face. Alex was shocked to see a genuine smile, telling her that he knew what was going on. "Why are you so giddy?"
"Why don't you go and find out?" He asked her, pointing out of the door. She waved goodbye to Campbell and raced towards the church. The grin on her face almost touching her ears. She slowed down ash she approached. rose petals were scattered on the floor, leading inside. Grizz stood outside in a suit. His hair pulled into his little man bun. He mirrored her smile as she approached.
"What is going on?" She asked him.
"M'lady. Your Prince awaits," She laughed but walked inside, following the petals. Sylver stood at the top, a bunch of flowers in his hand. Alexandrea couldn't help the heat making it's way to her cheeks. They were bright red as she walked towards him. He stood watching her, his heart pounding in his chest. He gave her the flowers and she smelled them. The lavender, rose and lilies mixing into one.
"Can you tell me what's going on?" She asked, placing the flowers into the glass vase on the table in front of them.
"Well, we haven't had a proper date yet. So, I asked Allie, Will and the Guard to help me do this," Alex looked around to see fairy lights hanging from the walls and candles burning. She turned back to Sylver, leaning forwards to give him a kiss. As always, the butterflies escaped their cage. Swarming around her stomach.
