"Y/N," Jimin said again. His voice softer, yet unrelenting as you felt his fingertips gently push back your comforter. "What happened?"
You looked up at his, tears running down your cheeks. You'd hoped he'd never see you like this. It seemed he hadn't expected it either, his eyes widening and his plump lips rounding into an 'o'.
"It was just a nightmare," you said, through hitches in your throat. You turned away from him, pressing your face into the pillow. "Just leave me, okay? I'll be all right."
"Do you want something to help you sleep?" he asked. He wore loose pajama day pants and a wrinkled T-short. His hair looked like someone had run their hands through it.
You didn't answer, wondering who told Jimin about the prescription sleeping pills in your bathroom cabinet.
"You screamed out his name." Jimin sat on the edge of the bed. His eyes were soft and he seemed unwilling to leave like you'd asked.
"Who?" you asked, even know you already knew the answer.
"Jiseok." His gaze wandered around your room. "What did he do to you, Princess?" Unlike the times he'd used the nickname before, there was no sarcasm behind it.
You glanced down at your phone to check the time: 2:37 a.m. You knew it was unlikely you would fall back asleep and looked towards the bathroom, considering the pills you didn't like to take.
"Who told you about the sleeping pills?"
"Sleeping pills?" Jimin asked, his brow furrowing. "I was just going to give you a Tylenol with a sleep aid."
"Oh," you said. "That probably wouldn't be enough. Thanks though."
Jimin's body moved closer to your own as his face came into full view. The moonlight that came through your window, illuminating the shadows that had once covered his face, now gone.
"Do you want me to stay?"
It was an odd question. You had no idea what it implied. Was he going to stay and watch over you? Sleep on the floor? In your bed?
"You need to sleep too, Jimin. I'll be all right, seriously."
"I'll take the couch," he said, crossing the room to the couch on the wall near the bathroom. "Will you feel safer if I'm here?"
"I don't know," you said, knowing Jimin couldn't protect you from your past or a car accident.
"I'll stay."
He seemed to know where to find extra blankets, disappearing into the closet for a moment, coming back with a blanket as he adjusted the pillows.
Something had changed in him since he saw Jiseok grab you after the press conference. You couldn't pinpoint what or how, but you could feel the way his gaze no longer felt like it was criticizing you.
the next morning
You woke up, not remembering falling asleep. You reached for your phone to turn off the alarm and turned over. It had still taken you over an hour to fall back asleep and after everything the day before, your body still felt exhausted.
"Good morning," Jimin said. You had forgotten his presence and looked over to see him neatly folding the blanket. "You feel like going to class?"
You nodded. "I have to," you said. "If I ever want to get out of this mess and this city. I have to."
You managed to get out of bed and walk to the bathroom. Not bothering too much work makeup, you just concealed your dark, red eyes and added some of the lost color to your face. Getting dressed, you kept it simple and you emerged to find Jimin changed and a backpack already slung across his back.
