Jimin's POV

She didn't fall asleep until past midnight. She liked to pretend she was asleep, probably wishing she was.

Jimin kept his back to her, knowing it would be easier on her. He could still feel the softness of her lips against his and had to run his hands through his hair to bring him out of his thoughts.

He knew he could lose his job if anyone found out. Yet, when he saw you caring for him like that, the small hairs around your face drenched in sweat and sticking to your skin, he couldn't help but lean in.

He knew he wasn't the only one. Your lips moved against his and you leaned in just as much as him.

Jimin heard your breathing even out and you let out a few small cries in your sleep. He had gotten used to the panicked noises you made, sometimes you said words and names. Jiseok's name.

He'd heard it countless times. Cried out in fear and desperation, whispered, and said between     pleas for help. It was obvious your ex-boyfriend hurt you.

A knock sounded at your door. Jimin's head immediately turned to make sure it hadn't woken you up. Luckily, you eyes remained closer and your breaths didn't even hitch.

When he opened the door, Jimin was met with Jiseok standing outside. He quickly walked outside and shut the door to your room.

"She's sleeping," Jimin said, his gaze hardening.

"Good," he said, pulling something out of his pocket. "I got a couple tickets to a show at the club tonight. Wanna go? Heard there's gonna be a lot of chicks there."

Jimin gripped the doorknob and looked at his old friend. "Dude, I can't leave the house."

Jiseok looked over at your bedroom door. "You're worried about Y/N?" he asked, his lips turning up on one side. "She'll be fine, Jimin. Plus, it's nothing that's not coming to her anyway."

Jimin's hand tightened around the doorknob, keeping himself from wrapping it around Jiseok's neck and slamming him against the wall.

"What did you do to her?" Jimin asked, his jaw clenching against against each word. "Cause I know what you told me two years ago isn't entirely true."

"So, she's told you then?" the other man asked, his eyes narrowing as he looked down at Jimin. "Should've known that's what she meant. She'd tell her little guard dog that I drove drunk one night and set him loose on me."

"We were friends, Jiseok. What happened to you?"

"To me?" Jiseok asked. "You've changed too, Jimin. I could always count on you to wanna go out for a good time. You used to hate her and now you've let that bitch break you."

Jimin let go of the doorknob and pressed his forearm against Jiseok's collarbones. The two stared at each other with dark, hard eyes.

"I don't know what you're doing here, why you came into her life, or what your motivations are. But, you already broke that girl once. I'm not going to let you do it again."

"You can't hurt me, Jimin. I'm necessary to her father's reputation. One move and I could turn Sleeping Beauty over to the Evil Queen."

"I don't care who you are. If you hurt her in anyway, I will hurt you."

Jiseok raised his eyebrows. "Hmm, last I checked, she didn't run away when we kissed for the first time."

Jimin's strength faltered for just a moment, his arm losing slack against the other man's chest.

"What the fuck? Are you spying on her?"

"You didn't expect the Colonel not to have security cameras, did you? I like to keep an eye on them. Just in case a public relations issue ever arises." His face lowered into a smug fog and Jimin resisted their urge to punch him.

"If you try anything Jimin, I'll show that footage to the Colonel. I'm sure he'd love to know the bodyguard he hired us becoming quite...attached. He'd surely take you off the case, but I'm sure we'd find a replacement. Plenty of other new graduates from the academy, and you know how they are, don't you, Jimin?"

"I don't care what happens to me. I will protect, Y/N. We might be old friends, Jiseok. But any friendship we once had is over."

Jimin released Jiseok and stood in front of your door as he watched him walk away.

the next morning

You woke the next morning to the smell of eggs and bacon. With a room upstairs, you never woke up to the smell of a freshly cooked breakfast.

You looked over at your nightstand to find the warm food and a cup of coffee. A folded note sat beside it:

Good Morning Princess,

Eat well and remember to take your medicine. I went to work out, but I'll be back before your classes start. Call me if you need anything.

Jimin

You eyes caught on the word "Princess". It made your heart flutter even when it was just a word on paper.

Stomach rumbling, you brought the plate to your lap and began eating. You then remembered the day before and the kiss. Of course, you hadn't forgotten it, but your mind had blissfully ignored it until you took the first bite of eggs.

Were you beginning to like Jimin? He was Jiseok's best friend and one of the ones responsible for spreading the horrible rumors about the accident. Of course, Jimin did not know at the time that it wasn't the truth. Could you really hold it against him anymore?

You body balanced carefully in a crevasse. Each part of your body clinging to something. Your hopes to for the future, loyalty to your family, your desire to escape from everything, the longing for a past that once was, the way your heart beat whenever you thought about Jimin's lips against your own.

No matter what you chose, you would fall into the deep, black crevasse. You would lose someone, something, part of yourself. Regardless of your choice, you would never be happy.

Jimin entering your room brought you back to your senses and you realized you'd cut the egg into tiny pieces.

"Good morning," he said, causing you to look up. He wore a white T-shirt that was soaked with sweat, black sweatpants, and a had a towel wrapped around his neck.

He paused when he noticed your frozen posture and the small slivers of egg. "Everything okay?"

"Oh, uh yeah," you said, feeling heat come to your cheeks. "Just woke up is all."

Jimin didn't question your excuse as he walked to the bathroom and you heard the shower turn on. Setting the breakfast aside, you knew this was your only chance.

You got dressed, picking clothes you hadn't worn for a while. Grabbing a mask, you shoved it in your pocket as you stuffed cash into your purse.

Putting your phone in airplane mode, you walked downstairs, careful to be quiet and not catch any unwanted attention.

It was still early, around 8 am, which meant that most of your family were either asleep or getting ready for the day. It was the easiest time to slip out.

You knew where the cameras were and that you couldn't completely avoid them. It wasn't like you could just put on your mask and go undetected. Instead, you did your best to avoid them or move through them quickly, knowing they only recorded when movement we detected. You hoped they would detect the movement, but not capture you.

You couldn't do this alone. Jimin was highly trained and would probably track you down with an hour, maybe less. But, with the help of an accomplice, you may just make it a little longer.

As you came to the bottom of the stairs, your ran into someone's chest. Coming out of nowhere, it caused you to gasp, but was quickly quieted as they grabbed onto your shoulders and brought you away.

"Hello sweetness, where do you think you're going?"

"I was looking for you actually."

Jiseok arched an eyebrow. "Really?"

"Yes, I need a ride."
