Jiseok sat in his car for a few minutes before he finally drove away. It was odd to you. That he considered staying. It may only be because your father will likely get mad at him for helping get out of the house, but he'd do that regardless of if Jiseok stayed or not.
There was no way Jiseok still cared about you. Two years was a long time to fall out of love, or realize you were never in love at all. Yet, despite all the trauma he caused you, despite the nightmares, and the PTSD, you still felt your heart jump in his presence.
And you hated it.
You didn't relax until you heard him start the car engine and drive away. The crunching of gravel became fainter as he got nearer and nearer the main road.
You rolled up your pant legs to midway up your shin and let the waves of the lake lap at your skin. The cold water always brought you back down to earth, made you feel how alive everything around you was.
Each particle of soil vibrated with life, the water pulsed in rhythmic motions against your legs, and if you laid back and focused well, you could see the sky rotate slowly.
This was your favorite spot on all of the Earth. Many people came to the lake and the beaches along it, but not many appreciated it like you did.
Today though, it was fairly empty. You saw only a lone boat out on the water and a few families clustered on the far end of the beach, all minding their own business. The knots in your muscles untied themselves against the round rocks of the beach, well worn down by the small, lapping waves.
Your mind still circled around the kiss and what it meant. For as long as you could remember, you hated Jimin, only loving him when you teased him or made him pout with frustration.
His family and yours always sitting across from each other at banquets. You'd purposely kick one another and stomp on toes. He'd put salt in your drink and constantly talked back.
Despite your combined antics, you don't think you ever truly hated him. You never went out of your way to avoid him, at least until he became your bodyguard. You remember considering asking him for a ride inside of Jiseok that night, but when you found Jimin, he was already drunk too.
The only reason you disliked him was because he was Jiseok's best friend. He either got in your way or was a painful reminder.
You heard a car coming up the gravel road. They were driving quickly, the sound of gravel scraping against their tires and when you turned to look back, dust surrounding the black vehicle.
As it settled and the car came to a stop, you recognized it as one that belonged to the security detail.
You sighed and looked back out at the lake, wanting one last good look before some security guard dragged you into the car and back home to be scolded by your father.
"Y/N," Jimin said, getting out of the car. You hadn't expected Jimin to come, or at least to come alone. You glanced over at the passenger seat, seeing no other ominous figure in the car. "What in the hell are you doing?"
His eyes were wide and his hair was messy. He'd probably been running his hands through it, a habit you noticed whenever he was in long talks with your father or hadn't slept for a while.
