THE YEAR 1924

It's been years since you received Tommy's letter, and you had heard from your sister less and less through the years, only to receive a letter that would spark happiness in you.

Dear sis,

I have some exciting news! I got engaged to Arthur and the wedding will be soon and I would love it if you would be my maid of honor, as I couldn't imagine anyone else in your spot. I know this is kind of sudden but please come as I need you home.

Yours,

Sarah."

You screamed with excitement for your sister and aunt came running towards you, thinking something had happened, only to find you smiling ear to ear. Your aunt and uncle also got the invitation but said they couldn't make it but to send their best regards. You were so happy for your sister as you knew how well Arthur treated her and she brought the best in him and at the same time he let her be her wild self without seeing it as inappropriate.

After your initial happiness, a sense of melancholy set in as you remembered Tommy and everyone you left behind. You knew he was married to Grace and had a baby boy Charlie, tears coming to your eyes at the thought it could've been you, but you pulled yourself together and packed your bags as quickly as possible, packing little souvenirs for your family and friends. On your way back home you were afraid whether everyone would recognize you, as you were older and now traded your long locks for short hair. The trip to Birmingham took forever and you were growing more and more anxious as you were getting closer. As you took a step off the train, you felt happy as you were finally home, back where you belong, with people speaking your language and familiar faces greeting the new you back. The only thing you didn't miss was definitely the smell of Small Heath, but this time it felt nice and drew a smile to your face. At the train station you saw your sister, frantically looking around to see you through the smoke from the train chimneys. You spotted her right away and ran towards her, your bags flying everywhere and your hat almost falling off your head as you held onto it with your right hand.

„Jesus (Y/N) I missed you so much!" tears fell down Sarah's cheeks from happiness and you couldn't contain your emotions as you shed a tear as well while lifting her up and spinning her in your hug.

„You look absolutely glowing! My little sis!" Sarah couldn't let go of your hug, and you could barely breathe from her tight grip. As she finally let you go she took a step back and held you by your forearms tightly.

„I am so happy you are finally here! You really look amazing! I have to hear everything you didn't write, we have a lot of catching up to do!" Sarah said, a smile never leaving her plump lips.

„Soooo?" you said gesturing for her to show you the engagement ring. She put her left hand out and you held it by the fingers admiring the beautiful golden ring on her finger.

„Arthur really did well!" you giggled at your sister, making her laugh.

„Only the best for the best!" Arthur appeared from behind Sarah and took your bag in his hand to carry to the car as you hugged him tightly.

„I am really happy for you both." You said lovingly, holding both Sarah's and Arthur's hand before letting go of Arthur and walking arm in arm with your sister, laughing and talking all the way back home. You were going to stay at their place for the remainder of your stay in Birmingham and you were ecstatic to be spending so much time with your sister getting her prepared for the wedding. You fell comfortably into the couch, a much needed relaxation after a long trip.

„So, who's the best man?" you asked Sarah, knowing the obvious answer would be Tommy.

„John." Sarah said, surprising you.
