In the morning, you woke up still in Tommy's arms, with a smile on your face as Tommy looked like an angel while asleep. You placed a kiss on Tommy's forehead, stepped out of bed while putting on your nightgown and went downstairs to prepare tea and breakfast. As you were cooking eggs and spreading butter on toast, you could hear Tommy approaching the kitchen.
„Something smells nice." Tommy said, putting on his suspenders. Tommy hugged you tightly from behind, kissing your neck gently. You left the pan on the stove and turned around to kiss him and as you did, he took your hand and twirled you as if you were dancing. It made you both giggle as you danced closely together in your kitchen. You could smell something burning until you realized the eggs were still on the stove.
„Oh, shit!" you exclaimed and quickly turned to the now charred eggs in the pan. You sighed at the sight because you wanted the breakfast to be perfect for Tommy, who was now sitting down putting on his waistcoat and laughing at you.
„It's your fault, just to be clear!" you pointed at Tommy with the ladle which you tossed the eggs in the bin with.
„Oh, how is it my fault you can't cook eggs?" Tommy teased still laughing. You couldn't help but realize he was about to leave, now putting on his coat.
„You won't stay for breakfast?" your voice now serious and a bit sad.
„I have to go buy a horse. It will win the derby." He said in a proud and certain tone. „But I will come back later if you want to meet me in Charlie's yard to see the horse?"
Your face lit up, you loved animals and couldn't wait to see it.
„Sure, I would love to!" you said, coming close to him to give him a playfull kiss. He then put his hat on and left.

You sat there eating your breakfast alone, reminiscing on last night's events, goosebumps now all over your body. It was like a dream. You then stepped outside to go do some grocery shopping for lunch, as you saw a familiar face getting into a car. It took you a minute to realize it was James, only his face was fully beaten up. As he looked at you, his eyes widened as he rushed to close the car doors and start the engine.
„James?" you asked in a worried voice. „What the hell happened to you?"
„We can't talk (Y/N). They'll kill me." He said, really scared.
„Who will kill you?" you were as confused as ever.
„Your fucking boyfriend and his gang. He's a fucking animal..." James said and paused a bit before continuing: „I have to leave the city. Goodbye, (Y/N)."
Before you could say or ask anything, he started the car engine and went off. Who the fuck does Tommy think he is? The judge, jury and executioner?! Even tho you wanted James all the worst in the world for what he did to you, this was not Tommy's place to act so. You, now fuming with rage, walked to the betting shop in hopes to still find Tommy there, but he wasn't there. Instead, his aunt Polly greeted you. You never met Polly but heard stories about her fierceness. The woman practically raised the boys and took over the shop when they went to France.
„Presumably, you're looking for Tommy?" Polly said, lighting her cigarette and letting you into his office. „He will be back later."
You went into the office and sat in a leather chair as Polly sat on the armrest of your chair.
„I'm (Y/N). Nice to meet you." You said as you shook her hand.
„Polly Gray." She smiled, but you couldn't figure out if it was a genuine smile. You both sat in silence as she offered you a cigarette, which you lit and smoked.
„As soon as I saw the anger in your eyes, I knew you needed to see Tommy. He's a wanted man nowadays." She said, taking a big puff of her cigarette, laughing at her statement. You didn't know what to talk to her about, so you just smoked and fiddled with your fingers, as you felt her eyes studying your every move.
„You're Tommy's new girl...Hopefully better than the last one." She said, referring to Grace, and continued: „He's a fool when he's in love, like all men, they turn into boys. And he can't be acting like a boy now. I am truly happy if he's happy with you, but you have to know he still loves her. I know he does." The words Polly said cut you like a knife. You knew it was true but didn't want to hear anyone say it, that way making it real. She then stood up from the armrest and sat in Tommy's chair across from you, putting out her cigarette. You had tears in your eyes, and this conversation almost made you forget why you were here in the first place.
„I know that, I'm no fool. I choose to ignore it." You said with a shaking voice, tears rolling down your cheeks. „But you can love multiple people in your life." You now remembered James and his beat up face.
„Could you tell Tommy I need to speak to him as soon as he gets back?" you asked Polly for a favor, not even waiting for a reply before getting up from your seat and leaving in a hurry.

You practically ran home, tears rolling down your face, but as you came home it's like you had no more tears to cry. You were left with your thoughts all afternoon, coming to the conclusion not to mention the conversation with Polly to Tommy when you meet. Finn knocked on your door and said Tommy was back, realizing Polly probably sent him to tell you. You were calm and had prepared what you'd say to him. You came into Tommy's office and he greeted you at the door with concern on his face as he saw your emotioneless stare directed at him.
„Who gives you the fucking right to butcher my ex?" You said in a calm but stern voice, your index finger pointed very close to his face. Tommy looked at you surprised how you even found out, if he wasn't supposed to talk to you. „Yes I saw him. The situation I had with him IS NOT your battle Tommy." You said, raising your voice a little.
„(Y/N), I was just giving him what he deserves for treating you like he did. And for not respecting you or  me." Tommy said taking your hands and staring into your eyes, trying to calm you down.
„IT WASN'T YOUR PROBLEM, TOMMY." You yelled into his face. „I don't want someone on my soul. You could've killed him, and what would that change Tommy, eh?" you continued. He let go of your hands but was still looking at you, now almost whispering in a threatening tone: „Some things can't go unpunished." You just laughed at his statement and how serious he was while saying it, which made him pull you closer. You were now slightly afraid as he was holding you in a firm grip around your waist, but couldn't help but direct your eyes onto his beautiful full lips. He leaned in pretty strongly and kissed you sloppily as you kissed him back. His hands were going down your waist, now at your hips, pulling your dress upwards. For a few seconds you forgot what you were arguing about, but you pushed away from him after realizing.
„You think fucking is gonna help?" you said, fixing the hem on your dress and wiping away lipstick that smudged in the corners of your lips. Tommy placed his hands on your cheeks.
„I need you to understand I did it for you. I really care about you, (Y/N). I need you beside me." Tommy said in a defeated voice, you knowing full on this was hard for him to say as he never says his feelings out loud. You hugged him as he placed his head on your shoulder and squeezed you tightly.
„I really care about you, too, Tommy. You just need to know I don't need defending." You whispered into his ear. He just stayed silent.
„Is the horse beautiful?" you asked, to make Tommy smile.
„You have to see for yourself. Come tomorrow." Tommy mumbled and smiled. You just stood in the middle of Tommy's office, lightly swaying as if you were slowdancing, in each other's arms.
