Charlie's POV

"What's wrong with her?" Alexander's voice reverberated through the entire hospital, shaking everyone present. The desperation and fury in his tone made it clear that he was barely holding onto his composure. His words, laced with barely contained rage, seemed to penetrate the walls of the hospital and reach every corner of the room.

"Alpha, her body had traces of silver, but I don't know how—how—" The doctor stammered, clearly intimidated by Alexander's presence.

"How what, goddammit? Speak!" Alexander's command was laced with such raw intensity that it was almost palpable. It was dangerous to be anywhere near him at that moment; his anger was a living thing, radiating and almost visible.

"We don't know how the silver got into her system... unless someone administered it to her or injected her," another doctor finally managed to explain as he entered the room. "But her body is recovering quite fast. She will wake up soon."

"Silver? How is it even possible? No one can even touch it," Tim, another member of the team, spoke up, confusion clear in his voice as he tried to comfort the doctors.

"You all can leave. Charlie and Tim, you both handle this matter. I want to know who is behind this, and as for Laurance and those boys, lock them in the dungeon," Alexander finally said, his voice tired yet firm. He had not moved from Davina's side for the past four hours, his fatigue evident in the slump of his shoulders and the dark circles under his eyes.

As the room emptied, I looked at Alexander one last time before leaving. He nodded in acknowledgment, his gaze still fixed on Davina, the depth of his concern palpable.

Davina's POV

I awoke in an unfamiliar setting, the beeping of medical machinery filling the silence around me. I felt weak, but the burning sensation of silver coursing through my veins had subsided. My wolf's dominance had waned when I fell unconscious, causing the silver in my system to dissipate. I sighed in relief, though my body still felt battered and worn.

Turning my gaze to the side, I saw Alexander's hand holding mine. I carefully shifted to face him, taking in his appearance. His hair was disheveled, and for the first time, I noticed his long, curly eyelashes. He looked exhausted, but his presence was a comforting anchor amidst the chaos.

"What are you looking at?" he murmured, his voice soft and soothing, though it was tinged with the weariness of the past few hours. His red and swollen eyes betrayed the anxiety and fatigue he had endured.

"How does it feel to be the Moon Goddess's favorite child?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, trying to lighten the mood despite the gravity of the situation.

"What?" Alexander's confusion was evident, but his eyes remained on mine, a hint of curiosity mixed with concern.

"You have every girl's dream eyelashes," I said with a pout, trying to bring some levity to the moment.

He chuckled, a sound that was both relieving and soothing. "It feels nice. It feels amazing to be the Moon Goddess's favorite child since she gave me you. I am the luckiest person," he said, his voice deep and resonant, conveying an emotion that was both tender and genuine.

I smiled at his words, finding solace in his sincerity. "You should smile more often," I said, my gaze locked on his grey eyes. He looked away momentarily, taking a deep breath before meeting my eyes again.

"Seems like you're still drowsy from whatever the doctors gave you," he said with a gentle smile. "You should stay beside me for that to change. I know it's too early, and you need time, but the moment I saw you for the first time, I fell for you instantly. I like you, and I almost lost you today. You scared me to the core. I didn't even realize I had such feelings. Stay beside me. If it's too hard for you to take a step toward me, I will come to you. Just stay. Give me a chance. I'll show you that you can trust me. I don't know what I'd do without you. I'd be better off dead without you." His eyes brimmed with tears, the vulnerability in his expression making my heart ache.

For a moment, we simply looked at each other, the weight of his words settling between us. "Let's go back home. I want to sleep, and Ethan will be waiting for me," I said in a flat tone as I closed my eyes. I didn't know what to say. I wasn't used to someone caring for me, especially not someone I had been sent to kill.

If I stayed around him much longer or if he continued expressing his feelings, I might lose focus on my mission. I needed to maintain control and stick to my plan. Tonight, I would have to act according to my purpose and finish what I had come here to do.

"How was your day, Ethan?" I asked him, trying to engage in a conversation we typically didn't have.

Ethan looked at me, confusion evident on his face. "What's gotten into you?" he asked, coming back after dressing up.

My lips twitched upwards as I remembered Charlie's words from earlier. He wasn't wrong; maybe we did need to have conversations like this more often.

"If I ask you a question, you should answer it first before asking whatever you want to know," I said, kneeling so that we were eye level with each other.

"It was just a normal day. Other kids stared at me at first, but they eventually left me alone except for this girl who keeps following me around. I have a lot of work to catch up on, but the syllabus is almost the same. The other pack kids behaved normally," he said, offering more information than usual.

"Now your turn. What's wrong with you?" he asked.

"Uhmm, nothing, kid. I'm just tired. I'll rest now. You can play or do your homework. I'll be here if you need any help," I said, retreating to the bed. I needed to rest and gather my strength before executing my plan.

"Tired? You're sounding strange. Anyway, I'm going to do my homework downstairs. I'm not a kid, you know. I'll soon be ten," he said, walking out with his books.

I lay down, pondering what I would do without this little wolf. Over the years, he had been my anchor. Alexander had spent the entire day with me in the hospital, canceling his plans and attending to pending work.

"You're being hesitant. Will you be able to do it? I can't help you in this, D," my wolf spoke, a hint of sadness in her voice.

"I can. Are you doubting me? This isn't the first time I'm going to assassinate someone," I replied.

Deep down, I was unsure whether I could kill Alexander, but I had to commit to my course of action. It was a fight for survival—either he dies or I do. I was determined to survive, even if it meant enduring the pain of the mate bond. I hoped that once it was over, the hurt would fade with time.

"Or we could leave Ethan here with Alexander and his pack. He'd have a good life," my wolf suggested again.

"Because I gave my word, Daeliah. I can't be weak because of a 'mate' I just met a few days ago," I countered.

"You can say 'no.' It's not a big deal. No one knows who you are," she argued, her voice tinged with frustration.

"You sound pathetic and weak, Daeliah. He's just a guy we met recently. Are you listening to yourself? If we leave him now, he'll come after us, and I can't risk that," I snapped, anger flaring as I pushed her away. The barrier between us solidified, leaving me alone with my turmoil but i have decided to not drag the matter of Alex anymore - he is just making my wolf and me  pathetic and weak . we will just finish him tonight .
