Davina's pov

"Didn't you get my message?"Alex shot back, his tone playful .

"Hard to miss a sticky note stuck to my head," i replied frustration and worry laced in my voice , slight tinged with irritation.

"Then why are you angry?" he asked, confusion evident in his eyes.

"Because you didn't take me with you!" I snapped, my voice trembling with a mix of anger and hurt.

"You were sleeping, and you weren't well. I didn't want to disturb you," he replied, his pout making him look too cute to be taken seriously. It was endearing, but that wasn't the point.

"You didn't tell me you already knew who was behind the attack!" he pressed on, his frustration clear.

"I just guessed it might be the same person who wanted you dead," I said, my tone a mix of irritation and resignation as we entered our room.

As my eyes fell upon the portrait hanging on the back wall—my wolf and his wolf painted together—I was overwhelmed by a surge of emotions. Surprise, awe, and a deep, heartfelt affection washed over me.

"Do you like it?" Alex's voice broke through my daze, seeing my shock and the way my jaw had dropped.

"How—how do you know what my wolf looks like?" I stammered, unable to recall ever showing him my white wolf.

"Ethan described it to me," he said with a soft smile.

"It's beautiful, Alex," I murmured, wrapping my arms around his torso and pulling him close. His strong, muscular arms wrapped around me, pulling me tighter against his chest. The steady thump of his heartbeat against me was a clear sign of his own surprise. It thrilled me to see how even the smallest gesture from me could unsettle him so profoundly.

"You're right. It's Matthew behind the rogue attacks. From what we know, they're planning an assault on us tomorrow night."

I pulled back, my mind racing to process the weight of his words. I had anticipated a battle, but not so soon.

"Listen to me, Davina. Don't argue with me on this one. I need you to be somewhere safe. Before dawn tomorrow, Charlie will take you to the underground tunnels. Take Ethan with you—"

"What nonsense are you spouting, Alex? You want me to run away while you face them alone? Are you kidding me? I'm not some weak wolf!" I shouted, my voice echoing with a mix of fury and disbelief. His request stung deeply, igniting a fire within me. My wolf seethed with rage.

"I need you to protect our pack. You're their Luna, Davina. The non-fighting females and children will be there. If something goes wrong, I need you with them to ensure their safety," he said, emphasizing each word with a resolute tone. His insistence felt unjust—why was he pushing me away when I was his best asset in the fight?

Before I could argue further, Charlie burst in, his face a mask of urgency and fear.

"Alpha, it's urgent," he said breathlessly, clearly having run here in a panic.

Without another word, Alex and Charlie moved quickly, and I followed them to his office.

Inside, two severely injured wolves lay on the floor, bloodied but slowly healing. Timothy, Charlie, and the two heads of the royal guards were present. One of the guards looked unsettlingly familiar.

"Alpha, these rogues aren't normal. They have white irises and a rancid smell," one of the guards reported, his voice trembling.

"They're controlled, more like living dead. They're the same wolves that attacked the Blue Stone Pack years ago," I said, sensing all eyes turn toward me.

"Luna, are you suggesting it was Matthew who attacked Blue Stone Pack? We were told it was vampires," Charlie asked, glancing at Alex, who seemed already aware.

"Who told you it was vampires? Vampires weren't anywhere near. I saw those rogues with white eyes setting fire to the pack," I replied firmly.

"That doesn't make sense, Luna. When we arrived years ago, there were no rogue wolves—only vampire bodies," a blonde-headed royal guard interjected. The other guard was eerily silent, his fear palpable.

"What's your name?" I demanded, pointing at the silent guard.

He remained mute, and Alex growled in frustration. I recognized his reaction wasn't merely about disrespect; it was the fear emanating from him.

"B-Br-Brad," he stuttered, his voice barely more than a whisper.

"Ugh, this is getting tedious, Brad. Let's cut to the heart of it. Explain why vampires were at Blue Stone Pack that night when it was clearly rogues who caused the massacre!" I snapped, digging my nails into his shoulder. He screamed as blood flowed from the wound.

Alex's shock was evident, and his anger at the betrayal was palpable. In a swift motion, he pinned Brad against the wall, his grip on Brad's neck so tight that I feared it might snap.

I looked around, considering grabbing a nearby couch to witness the unfolding drama. I knew it was cruel to revel in this, but I couldn't help but feel a dark satisfaction. I thrived on witnessing the downfall of those who betrayed us.

"Need popcorn?" my wolf quipped sarcastically.

"If it wasn't vampires, then why did those rogues attack Blue Stone Pack?" Charlie asked, his confusion clear.

"The rogues that night were different—weak at the time. But the ones who attacked us in the forest days ago are far stronger, impervious to pain. They were likely experimenting with rogue wolves to create killing machines. Their first attempt failed, so they covered it up by killing vampires and making it look like they were responsible. Now that they've perfected their method, they're ready for a full-scale attack," I explained.

The room was boiling with rage, and I saw Austin at the door, his eyes blazing with fury.

"Are you telling us they slaughtered an entire pack just for an experiment?" Charlie asked, horrified.

Alex loosened his grip on Brad, but before he could hit the ground, Austin ripped out his heart, ending his life abruptly. I wasn't finished with him, but Austin's intervention cut that short.

I stepped forward, ready to address the room of enraged wolves. Alex's eyes held a glimmer of hurt at my reaction, but I remained resolute in my pursuit of justice.
