Alexander's POV

I stood on the battlefield, facing the vast army of rogues that stretched out before me. The chaos and noise were overwhelming, but my thoughts were consumed by her.

Regret gnawed at me as I remembered our argument earlier that morning. In my frustration, I'd been enraged to see my mate embracing another man. The memory made me feel like a fool.

"Happy realization," my wolf remarked dryly.

I chose to ignore him. At least I found some comfort in knowing she was safe.

I had never lost a battle, and I was determined not to lose this one. My gaze swept across the battlefield, but Matthew was nowhere to be seen. The endless sea of rogues seemed to stretch on forever.

Cousin or not, Matthew had dared to attack my people, threaten my mate, and challenge me. For the sake of the Blue Stone Pack, for the innocent lives of wolves, vampires, and witches, I vowed to end this war once and for all.

I signaled the head warrior to sound the siren. All the Alphas and their warriors were already assembled.

With a deafening blast of the horn, both sides charged at each other.

I was immediately surrounded by a cluster of rogue wolves. I fought fiercely, stabbing and slashing, but they kept coming. What did they think they were—zombies?

"They've mistaken themselves for zombies. Let's correct that misunderstanding," my wolf growled.

A grim smile touched my lips at his words. "Go for the heart," I instructed my wolves through the link.

We fought for what felt like an eternity. I'd taken down more than two hundred rogues, yet our side still faced heavy losses.

I leaped onto a wolf attacking Timothy, tearing its heart out. Timothy was badly injured.

The rogues kept pouring in, like a never-ending maze. I was growing increasingly frustrated.

"You need to rest. Let me handle this," my wolf urged, his anger palpable. It was time to let him out.

Without hesitation, I shifted into my wolf form. For the next few minutes, I stood amidst a sea of around fifty corpses, my black fur stained with blood. The stench was overpowering.

Matthew was still missing. Where was that coward hiding?

I tried to focus on finding her. Her scent was nearby, but I couldn't see her.

I was jolted from my search when a rogue's claws dug into my leg.

A powerful, dominant growl erupted from my right. The sound was enough to make everyone halt and bow their heads in reverence.

Turning, I saw her—the beautiful white wolf standing amidst the chaos. Her white fur was marred with blood, making her even more striking.

I rushed toward her, intending to leap onto her, but she sidestepped, causing me to stumble.

"You stink of rotten meat. And you look handsome—you're distracting me," she said with a hint of teasing.

"That hurts. What are you doing here?" I asked, trying to hide my concern.

Time seemed to freeze. No one moved; it was as if the world had stopped.

"I'm making sure my idiotic mate doesn't die," she replied with determination.

"It's not that easy to kill me, love. What have you done to them? They look like frozen statues."

"Well, ding dong, your wish has been granted. I've frozen them temporarily, but it won't last long. They'll start moving again soon."

"Davina, please leave. It's too risky here. It's not as easy as it looks," I pleaded.

"Relax, my dear mate. I'm not as fragile as I seem. Now listen carefully—I'm going to try to break the control over these rogues. As soon as I succeed, command them to retreat and leave. Don't stop me halfway, or you might end up killing me."

Her mention of killing herself made my heart seize with fear.

"No, you're not doing any of that!" I shouted, my voice raw with desperation.

"Your king's commands won't work on me. Look around, Alexander. Your side is losing. These aren't normal rogues; they follow orders, and right now, their orders are to kill. You might win the war, but your people are dying with each passing second. Charlie and Timothy are injured. Hell, you're injured. Think about them. All the other warriors are here fighting for us. You don't want to be the reason for their deaths when you can save them. YOU'RE THEIR KING, Alexander Valencia Anderson. Act like one!" she shouted back, her voice echoing with urgency.

"Can you do it? Can you remove the control?" I asked again, struggling to meet her gaze.

"I can try, can't I?" she replied. Her words made me growl in frustration. Was she serious? Lost in my thoughts, I barely noticed her shift into her human form, clad in one of my shirts.

"Now!" she commanded.

Before I could react, she was enveloped by a dense, dark fog. The sky darkened, and thunder rumbled.

I looked around, seeing my people returning to their senses, but the rogues remained frozen. I could only hear Davina's cries. My heart ached as I felt her pain—unbearable for me, yet she was enduring it.

"DON'T! Don't do anything. You'll kill our mate!" my wolf roared.

I recalled her words. Charlie, Timothy, and Austin gathered around me. Every rogue wolf returned to normal, confused about why they were there. I shifted back to human form.

"LEAVE!" I bellowed with all my might. The ground trembled, and birds scattered from the trees. The pack wolves bowed their heads, and every rogue began to retreat from the battlefield.

I searched frantically for Davina, but she was nowhere to be seen.

"What's happening to her? What's she doing?" Austin yelled, gripping my neck.

Charlie held Austin back while Timothy helped me up.

Suddenly, everything went silent, punctuated by the sound of a gunshot. I turned to see Matthew emerging, making himself visible.

Without hesitation, I grabbed a knife and hurled it at Matthew. It struck his shoulder before he could react. Royal guards swiftly captured him and took him to prison. I vowed not to make his death easy. I would make it the most brutal anyone had ever witnessed.

"Peel his skin off, then his muscles and fat. Leave him in a field of eagles, covered in salt," I ordered the guards, my voice cold and unyielding.

I looked back at Davina. Her cries had stopped. No. No, please. Moon Goddess, no. I begged for the only outcome I couldn't bear. The dark fog dissipated, revealing her lifeless body on the ground. A bullet had pierced her heart.

I rushed to her side, cradling her in my lap.

"Don't you dare close your eyes on me. Do you hear me? Please, don't. Don't leave me alone here, Davina. I can't live without you. I love you. Please, don't go. Don't leave me alone..." My words were more pleas than commands, my sobs breaking through as I held her fragile form.
