Davina's POV

I sprinted toward the source of the noise I'd heard while sending Ethan off with Cassie and Alice. I was certain I had heard it right, but now the area was eerily silent.

"Don't tell me we've walked right into a trap," I muttered to myself, panic rising.

"Even if we have, they've invited their own death," I told my wolf, trying to sound confident. But suddenly, a chilling realization hit me.

Oh, no.

I turned on my heel and raced back in the direction I had come. How could I have been so careless? Dammit, I needed to move faster.

My steps skidded to a halt as the sound of a car crash reached my ears. "No. Please, no," I whispered, my heart pounding. I ran toward the crash site, desperately hoping that what I feared was not coming true.

As I arrived, my worst fears materialized before me. Cassie, injured and battered, was helping the driver out of the wrecked vehicle. Relief washed over me as I saw Ethan and Alice standing safely nearby. They had a few scratches, but nothing that wouldn't heal quickly.

But then my worst nightmare unfolded. A massive rogue wolf charged toward the children. Without hesitation, I leapt into the air, my claws slashing the rogue's hide.

I fought with a fierce determination, tearing at the beast until it lay lifeless beneath me. I hadn't even realized I was in my wolf form until the battle was over. My anger and instinct to protect Ethan had taken over. Although I was grateful Ethan was unharmed, I knew I would soon face the consequences of my reckless actions.

My wolf, with her spotless snow-white fur and bloodshot red eyes, was a rare sight. Despite her appearance, she was as deadly and uncontrollable as they came. I rarely allowed her out, and she was aware of it.

I glanced back at Ethan. He was smiling brightly at my wolf, while Alice hid behind him, peeking out cautiously. They were both adorable. Ethan had always been fond of my wolf since day one.

Turning my gaze to Cassie, I saw her shock. She was undoubtedly processing that I was no ordinary wolf—there were no white wolves in history, present or past.

"You're indeed a precious one, Davina," Cassie finally said, her voice soft as she gently smoothed my fur.

It tickled, but I didn't react.

I looked at the driver, who was already dead. A wave of sadness washed over me. Why did I feel sorrow for the death of a pack member?

I shook my head, refocusing. I motioned Cassie toward the children. Understanding my unspoken command, she shifted into her wolf form. Alice climbed onto Cassie's back, while Ethan did the same on my wolf.

"Ethan, hold tight," I instructed through our mind-link.

We followed Cassie, who led us to her home. As we moved, I kept my senses alert for any sign of danger or pursuit.

We arrived at a large, barren expanse. It seemed empty, but I knew it was deceiving—a magical barrier concealed the true nature of the place.

Cassie gave me a reassuring look, signaling that we were at the right spot. The barrier fell away, revealing a breathtaking view. Alex's home was nothing compared to this. The grandeur left both Ethan and me in awe. Well, what could one expect from royalty?

We were soon surrounded by numerous warriors and people.

"I don't believe someone lives here too. I don't want to believe it—am I right?" Ethan asked, glancing at me. I was still in my wolf form, so I nodded in agreement.

Cassie and Alice were smiling, along with the others who watched us with curiosity and admiration.

"Just call her Mom. It's not wrong to have another pair of parents, is it?" my wolf suggested.

"You're in control. Go ahead and call her Mom," I replied, allowing her to make the decision.

"Was that meant to be funny?" she asked.

"You can laugh if you find it amusing," I responded.

Our conversation was interrupted by the blaring of horns and alarms. Everyone rushed inside at Cassie's command.

"Take care of Ethan, Cassie," I told her through our mind-link. She was unfazed by my communication method, understanding it was an emergency. She nodded, taking Ethan and Alice inside. The barrier began to rise once more.

I took one last look at Ethan before sprinting into the forest.

"You promised you'd return safe and sound, Davina. If you break that promise, I swear I'll never speak to you again," Ethan's voice echoed in my mind.

"I won't break it, kid. You stay safe and take care of yourself until I return. If anything goes wrong, use the link to contact me and find a safe place," I replied.

Despite Cassie's attempts to mask her fear, I could sense it. I read her thoughts and knew that this would be a difficult fight. Defeating thousands of rogues, especially those under control, would be a grueling task.

Something told me this would be a long, hellish night.
