I looked up as if I could see God and said a quick prayer thanking him for all he had done for us as the pianist began playing the classic "here comes the bride" song. I linked arms with my dad, trying not to cry and walked towards the door I would enter from. I heard people on the other side shifting, I'm assuming to stand since I was coming.
"This is it, baby girl," my dad said, kissing my forehead.
"Thank you for everything, I love you," I said, realizing he was giving me away permanently.
"I love you too," he smiled and I saw a few tears fall.
When the doors opened my eyes automatically locked with my soon to be husband's. My full attention was on him and how handsome he looked waiting for me at the altar. He wiped a quick tear that no one caught but me and beamed as I got closer. My dad held my hand as I walked up the few steps and kissed it before letting it go and taking his seat. I immediately grabbed my man's hand and took a second to look around at everyone that came to support us.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the pastor started speaking. I could hear what he was saying but as I looked into my baby's eyes I saw everything we'd gone through. The ups and downs and nights full of tears, but also the times that made me realize this is the man I wanted to marry. The sweet gestures, protecting me like his life depended on it, and the love that only grew and grew over time. To think this all started at my first party in ATL four years ago. We were so young and unaware of all we would face together, and now look at us. I looked up again and thanked God for that night four years ago. Without that party we wouldn't be here today.
