"I miss you," I said sadly into the phone. Derek had left with Mario, Gelo, and Bash back to Harlem to help Damon out. I was super nervous for them to be leaving but I'd never stand in the way of him helping out his family. He asked if I wanted to come with them, said he had some family I could stay with but since I just started a new job I didn't want to take any time off yet.
"Don't start with that crying shit," Derek said coldly on the other end. I rolled my eyes. Whatever tears I may have shed for him definitely weren't falling now.
"How's everything so far?" I asked, wanting to hear everything.
"It's straight. The same Harlem I left, no new shit," he said vaguely. "I gotta go though, ma. I love you," he whispered the last part. I assumed his niggas were around because normally he says it openly.
"You what?" I teased.
"Man, you heard me," he sucked his teeth.
"But, I want to hear it again. Louder," I continued.
"I love you!" he yelled in my ear. I said it back then hung up. I laid back in my bed dreading the fact that I had to go to work. After going to school during the day I was so tired by the time my shift started. I had two hours before I had to be at work so I decided to take a quick nap.
An hour later I woke up to Jaiya coming into the room yelling and not the alarm that I had set. I had thirty two more minutes left but of course she had to ruin that.
"My bad, I didn't know you were sleep," she said and continued her loud conversation with Mia. I wrapped my pillow around my ears dramatically and laid my face into the bed.
"You owe me some coffee," I said, finally getting up a few seconds later. She threw a five dollar bill on my bed and I took it gladly and slid it into my bra. "I'll catch y'all later," I said drowsily, changing my clothes then walking out the door. I checked my purse one more time, making sure I had everything before heading to my car outside. Nike's only dress code was that you wear their brand head to toe which wasn't hard since I owned a lot of Nike. I had on a red Nike sweatsuit with a black dri fit top underneath and some all black 12's. I stopped at this coffee shop I liked before pulling into the parking lot and preparing myself for this shift.
"Hey Amora!" One of my co workers, Taylor said as I clocked in. I smiled and greeted her quickly before heading onto the floor to start going through inventory. A few customers stopped me here and there to ask for my help but it was a pretty chill day. After my lunch my manager asked me to start working the register which I hated. I would much rather fold clothes or help people find shoes than work the stupid register.
"Hey, did you find everything you were looking for today?" I asked a soccer mom looking lady. She made small talk until everything was rung up and the next customer came through. The man looked kind of scary, like he was in a gang. I wondered if he knew Derek until my thoughts were thrown off by the fact that he didn't have any items in his hands. He quietly slipped me a note and walked away. Something told me to read it right there so I did.
