"What are you doing here," I said, annoyed, snatching my hand out of his.
"I had to come check on you, make sure you were ok," he said. I rolled my eyes and snatched my heels off, wobbling some.
"You were here when you called?" I said, confused.
"Yeah, when I got here your mom said you had gone out with Jaiya and Adonis," When he heard his name Donnie stepped forward.
"Look bro, if she don't want you here you need to leave," he said.
"Man, I just need to talk to her for a few minutes," Derek said, waving him off. Donnie stepped forward and I knew this wasn't going to end well.
"Nigga, this is our house. If I say leave, you leave," he said in Derek's face.
"Nah, if SHE says leave I'll leave," Derek responded, stepping up to him. They both turned to me waiting for a response and I massaged my forehead not wanting to deal with them arguing tonight.
"Just give us five minutes," I spoke. Donnie looked him up and down one more time before leaving with Jaiya, Lolo, and our mom. I sat down on the couch, dropping my shoes beside me and laid back. Derek came and sat next to me, a little too close. "Why would you come here?"
"I told you I needed to talk to you. After you left so quick and didn't talk to me again I was worried," he said. The only time I'd seen him this soft was when Bash died and that was only for a brief moment. Then he was back to tough Derek again.
"There's just too much that goes on when I'm around you I just needed a break," I spoke, honestly.
"I know. And I'm sorry. I would have never left you there alone if I knew TJ was finna have other people in the house. I trusted him with you, no one else. And we handled Larry. And all the shit Damon had got himself into. All of that's over," he said, his eyes big.
"And now what? We go back to Atlanta where Clyde's men are still going crazy?" He looked down at his hands and sighed. "Exactly, you can't sit here and tell me shit isn't still hot in Atlanta without lying. This isn't a simple fix. Things will never be simple with you," I said. The alcohol was making it easy for all of the things I had been holding onto to come out.
"I understand that, but do you really want a simple life? Marry, have kids, buy a house with a white picket fence and all that bullshit?" he asked.
"Yes, actually I'd love to live a simple life like that but I know I could never have that with you. Not as long as you were still working with Rodney,"
"Look, I don't want to waste my time or yours. But look around this house and at your parents and tell me you'd really be ok settling for this. You want more and I know you do or else you would've left when they took Mia. But you stayed," he said, standing. He walked towards the door and I slowly followed. "I leave tomorrow night. If you wanna talk I'm staying at the Hilton close to here. If you don't come I'll leave your life for good, but you and I both know that's not what you want," he said.
"You don't know what I want," I responded and closed the door. I stood there for a moment trying to process when I saw Jaiya creeping on the stairs. "Go to bed," I laughed.
"Bitch you better not let that nigga leave. He's the best thing that ever happened to us," she laughed. I shook my head at her drunk self and walked back to my room with her. The only thing I'd be worried about tomorrow was the hangover I knew was coming.
