[5] cats

"uhm hello? miss jeon?" heejin suddenly snapped out of yet another flashback when she heard her name being called. she hadn't realised until now, but her and hyunjin had been staring right into each others eyes for the whole time. she quickly moved her eyes away and to where the source of speech was coming from. turns out, it was jungeun calling her name instead. "yes, sorry what did you need?" she said, facing jungeun. "i just wanted to know if this is all we need?" jungeun replies, pointing towards the paper. heejin nodded her head and gave a polite smile, she figured she was too rude for not being able to listen to jungeun, although her body didn't exactly allow her to snap out of the trance any sooner.

hyunjin was just quietly observing as yerim, jungeun and heejin made small talk about the process and the next time they'd meet. she was too taken aback by the memory. it was heejin she loved all along, in well, whatever that was. at this point, she could've sworn she'd be going insane. there's no way this is normal. as much as she tried to ignore it and focus on the actual meeting, her mind wouldn't stop referring back to that thing.

loudly, hyunjin sighed, gaining everyone else's attention. she quickly covered her mouth, that wasn't meant to happen, they're going to think she's bored of this. well she was, but it would be way too rude to visibly show it. "is something wrong hyunjin?" jungeun asked, a bit annoyed and embarrassed by what the girl just did. "uhm no not at all... i was just thinking of something i didn't mean to do that..!" she replied, i mean it was true, but not completely. she glanced at heejin but unlucky for her, heejin looked at her at the exact time. it was awkward, so they quickly turned their heads around and continued to the meeting.

"hyunjin you seemed so out of it in that meeting, was anything on your mind?" yerim asked, walking besides hyunjin to head home. they lived quite near to one another, so whenever they had the chance, they'd go home together. "yeah.. i'm alright, don't worry.. i suppose i was just more tired today." she said, shrugging her shoulders as she said the last few words. yerim didn't buy it, but she nodded either way. even if it wasn't completely the truth, she didn't want to bother hyunjin and whatever was on her mind. "well i'll see you on monday okay?" yerim said, stopping in front of hyunjins house. hyunjin nodded and waved goodbye as yerim disappeared off into the distance.

she unlocked her door and entered, being greeted by her 3 cats. she smiled and bent down, stroking first the fluffy white one, and then the black one with white dots, and lastly the ginger one. she made her way over to the kitchen and placed cat food into each of the animals food bowls. "i see you guys are hungry" hyunjin mumbled to herself sadly, it was hard to take care of 3 cats whilst having a job that lasts too many hours. "i guess chaewon was too busy to come over and feed you guys today, huh?" she said picking one of them up and sitting down with him in her lap. "it's okay, i'm home now, eat all you want."

despite how happy hyunjin seemed, she did feel lonely, she lived alone with only yerim or her other friend chaewon visiting her. that's why she got theses cats, but she never realised how hard work it would be to take care of the 3 felines whilst having to go to work. either way, busy or not, she was glad she could have some company by her favourite animal.

but what she lacked and really wanted was human company.

"i forgot you had a cat!" heejin exclaimed, picking up the really small cat and hugging it softly. "yeah! isn't she cute, i'm so happy mum was able to get me one for my birthday!" hyunjin smiled brightly, stroking the cat that was in heejins arms. "she can be our child!" heejin said, still observing the cute fluffball that purred and rested against her chest. hyunjin slightly blushed. she wouldn't mind that. "i guess she could be!" hyunjin replied, still smiling. her cat must've really liked heejin, plus it seemed like the 2 got along really well. it made her happy.
