Victoria
It had been five years; five very long, but very prosperous years. The nine years prior to now were terrible for for me, but as soon as I had Lindsey my life dramatically turned around. My main focus in life had shifted. Claiming Theodore as my own and holding on to our relationship was my main goal, but when Lindsey came, she became my main goal. My entire life's focus was centered around her and her well being.
"Mommy!" Lindsey screamed as her little fit slammed against the floor upstairs.
"Yes?" I yelled back.
"I have something important to tell you!"
"I'm in the kitchen!"
Her feet slamming across the floor increased speed, she ran down the steps and slid into the kitchen, falling into my legs. I closed the stove before she did something crazy and stuck her hands inside to feel if the hamburgers were done yet. I turned around and picked her up, sitting her on top of the kitchen table so I could talk to her while I prepared the rest of our dinner.
"What's up?" I asked.
"Where's Daddy," she pouted. "I thought you said he was gonna come?"
I sighed as I turned back to her. I hated disappointing her, but I didn't know when Theodore would actually be here. He's still playing basketball and now they've got some of the teams playing on Christmas day, and Theodore belongs to one of those teams. He said he'd try to get out here before Christmas day, but he couldn't make any garuntee's until after Christmas.
I looked down at Lindsey's pouty face, that was the perfect mixture of Theodore and I. She got a mix of our skin tones, which turned hers to a beautiful caramel color. All parts of her resembled Theodore and I, except for her exotic greenish eyes. She didn't get those from Theodore and I. I know she inherited them from Mama because I've always longed for them. The minute Theodore laid eyes on her, he fell in love with her and her gorgeous eyes.
"Daddy's going to come."
"When? I wanna see him!"
I grabbed her hands, trying to calm her down because I know how she can get when it comes to Theodore. She gets really emotional when it comes to him and has grown attached to him over the years, which she should since he's her father. She's really protective of Theodore, and hates not being able to see him since he only comes to visit once every month, but he talks to her on the phone throughout the day and Facetime's her every single night before she goes to bed.
"Baby, he'll be here. We can see Daddy on TV tonight. Remember I told you that?"
She nodded her head. "When he's playing basketball?"
"Yeah," I smiled. "Don't you like to see Daddy doing that?"
She scratched the back of her head. "Yeah, I guess."
I lifted her face up by her chin. "Don't be sad, Daddy will be here soon."
"I just wanna see him now Mommy!"
"I know, I do too," I said as I rubbed her red cheeks. "You wanna try calling him? He might be free before the game starts."
"Yeah."
I handed her my phone since she knew how to call people. Well, the only people she knew how to call were Theodore, Mama, and Daddy. She knew their numbers by heart, but she knew exactly how to go through my contacts and spot out their names since those were the only names she could read. I'm sure she only recognized their names because they always spoiled her the most.
She had put the phone on speaker and laid it down on the table. The phone rang and rang and I thought he wasn't going to answer, but on the last possible ring, he picked up his phone.
