Mitali: What?!
Gayatri rolled her eyes. She knew Mitali would react dramatically to her suggestion. This was going to take some time, she pondered.
Mitali: Dadi, are you out of your damn mind? I clearly remember telling you that I do not wish to get married right now. And you went and proposed my alliance to Arjun uncle for Rishi?!
Dadi; Now when you put it like that, it feels chaotic.
Mitali: That's because it is chaotic!
Dadi: Mitu, now don't overreact.
Mitu: Overreact? Dadi, we're talking about spending our entire lives together! I'm not overreacting.
Dadi: Yes, you are. It's Rishi, Mitali. He is your best friend. And according to the internet, if you marry your best friend, the marriage is always a happy one.
Mitali raised a brow.
Mitali: Have you been scrolling through Pinterest again?
Dadi rolled her eyes and said,
Dadi; It doesn't matter. Listen to me, I'm telling you this from my own personal experience. Your dadu and I didn't even see each other till our first night. We had no idea who we were getting married to.
Mitali: Yeah but that was the 1950's and this 2019! Things are different now!
Dadi: The only difference here is that I didn't know your dadu , but you, you have the privilege of marrying someone you've known all your life as a good friend.
Mitali: Dadi, I can't......it's Rishi...
Dadi: Exactly Mitu, it's Rishi. Come on, I've known that boy for so long and I can't think of a man more perfect than him for you. Tell me if you can think of any one reason to reject that sweet boy.
Mitali sighed heavily and paced around.
Dadi: I'm not telling you to get married just now. I'm just saying.....
Mitali: Dadi, I'm just 21! For good lords sake, why are you so hell bent upon sending me away to someone else's house?
Dadi: You know that isn't true. Mitu, all I want is to see you settled happily in your life before I pass away.
Mitali: Dadi!
Dadi: Mitu, just because you ignore the fact that I'm old doesn't make me any younger. I'm probably two or three years younger than God.
Mitali looked at her and both of them burst out laughing. Controlling herself, she said,
Mitali: But dadi, marriage,......it's a big decision. I can't just take that kind of a decision so easily. And what about Rishi? Have you asked him if he wants to marry me?
~On the other hand~
Arjun: Wow , I thought it would be harder to convince you. But you agreed so easily.
Rishi blushed and smiled,
Rishi: Dad, I can never reject Mitu. I mean, to be honest, she's too good for me. I can't think of anyone better to spend my entire life with.
Arjun smiled at his son.
Rishi: But it doesn't matter what I feel. I know she's gonna say no to this.
Arjun raised a brow and asked,
Arjun: Why not?
Rishi smiled weakly and looked outside the window.
Rishi: Because she doesn't feel the same way about me , dad.
Arjun furrowed his brows and walked up to his son.
