The moon silvered like a pearl suspended from the cusps of heaven, coloured calcium, bleeding from above, surrounded by star pieces of fragmented soul scattered across the ebony sky.
Yet inspite of it's emasculate beauty , all Mitali could think of was him. As she gazed out of the small window of her room, a soft sigh escaped her lips.
Who was she lying to? Herself? Adi? Rishi?
It wasn't fair to either of them. Hell it wasn't even fair to her. Why couldn't she control her feelings? Why did the universe just want her to break under the pressure of her feelings?
Rishi was perfect. The perfect person to be with. He loved her unconditionally with no ifs and but's. He trusted her. He was there for her when she needed him. He was someone who would be her comfort blanket forever. And yes, she did love him.
She was just not in love with him.
There's a massive amount of difference between loving someone and being in love with someone. No matter how hard she tried , she couldn't make herself fall for him. Maybe it was because she knew deep down that she didn't deserve him.
Rishi deserved someone who would love him just the way he did. He deserved someone who would be his comfort pillar for whenever he needed it.
Unfortunately, Mitali couldn't picture herself as being either.
And on the other hand, her feelings for Adi were still afresh and living in the deepest corners of her heart. She could do nothing to make them go away. She felt helpless.
They say we only tend to understand something when it happens to us or our closed ones.
Now she understood what Ananya had went through three years back. The helplessness, the suffering, the pain.
Unknown to her, the gang along with Rishi stood on the other side of the door persuading Adi to go in. After they had their talk, Rishi had called Mitali and told her that he wanted to talk to her. Since Adi was convinced that Mitali didn't want to see him, Rishi had stepped in and encouraged him to lie. And so he did.
Currently, he stood in front of the door contemplating whether to go in or not. Rishi nudged him and said,
Rishi: Don't think so much. Just pour your heart out to her.
Adi nodded and inhaling deeply, he pushed the door open and stepped in.
Mitali had her back to him. He slowly came in and closed the door behind him.
He took gradual steps and came and stood beside her. She still didn't notice him. So he asked,
' What are you thinking about?'
She jerked her head to the right and found Adi standing beside her. His eyes were engraved on hers.
Mitali: What are you doing here?
She exhaled deeply as fresh tears pricked her eyes.
Mitali: I don't have the energy to fight with you anymore, Adi.
Adi smiled knowingly and said,
Adi: I'm not here to fight with you.
Mitali looked at him questioningly.
Adi: I just had something of yours that I needed to give you.
