Romance in Roses

Chapter 15

I run towards her and grab her shoulders  and pulled her close to me, but she struggles to move away my arm and wanted to continue hurting herself. I forced her to turn her body and face to me, I clasp both side of her shoulders and look at her straight

"Look at me Kim, I said look at me!" I yelled and then she looks me in the eye and her eyes were swollen and soaked into tears

"I know we did not make it but please just listen to me..." I beg her and she lend her ears on me but heavily breathing after screaming in the very bottom of her lungs

"I am going to help you, I'll give you money for your mother's operation as a reward for saving the patient" I explained and she froze in a surprise, she became speechless and her tear rolled down into her chin. I wipe her tears and risen up her chin with my finger

"Now head up high, we just save a patient" I gleam at her but she never gave me a response, she suddenly run into me and hugged me so tight.

"Thank you, doctor! Thank you!" She stated with glee, she hugged me tightly that you could ever imagine. She smuggles into my chest and let it all out the happiness of being helped by someone. I tap her back with a huge smile in my face. As she moves away, I hand her over the $5 000 that my mother loaned in my account, she thanked me a lot and leave right after being called by a nurse.

I'm on my way to look for Doctor Cooper, but I haven't found him inside the hospital so I went outside and tried wandering around at the back of the hospital, and then I found him kneeling on the ground and about to slam his head on the wall. I run into him and immediately covered his forehead with palm before he slammed it. My hand was the one getting all the pain, but I take the pain silently and hold his shoulder.

"If I did not drop that needle, we should've been made it on time..." He sobbed

"If you didn't continue to stitch the parent's heart, she would've been dead" I said then he looked up into me with the same situation as Dr. Kim's.

"Can't you see? We failed! we did not make it because of me" He exclaimed at me, I feel the huge disappointment of himself and I wanted him to understand that

"Doctor, it’s not about the competition, it’s about the people we save" I say with a smile on my face, I hand him over a white envelope with a $5 000 in it. He take a look and it filled his eyes with tears

"Rose, I can't take this, it's too much" He felt conscious and look at me unbelievably

"You are a great first assistant" I tap his shoulder once more and help him stand up

"Doctor Diaz... "

I slowly walk away and left him unspoken, I hid my hand on the pocket of my coat as I head back inside. I was actually being called by my manager and I'm now heading to his office and I know that I'll be hearing a rant from his mouth but I am willing to take it, I saw Irene nearby and then she notices me but I pretend that I did not saw her. She blocked my way and gave me a smirk and raise of the flicked eyebrow.

"I'm in a rush, move away" I ordered

She just crossed her arm and stand on one leg, "I told you, my team can make it to New York. We became the exchange students and it’s in me to brag about it"

"Congratulations" I lifelessly greeted and bump her shoulder as I pass by.

I arrived at Dr. Ramiro's office and I entered inside, but he isn't around, I take a sit on his brown simple sofa and waited for him. I grab my phone and saw a lot of messages from Heiley and Ken, asking about the surgery. I didn't bother to answer since I felt upset as well. He arrives and I stand up and greeted him, but he just nodded.

"Take a seat" He stated

I take a sit on the chair of his desk and I couldn't even look him in the eye. I stayed low and keep my mouth shut.

"Look at me Dr. Diaz" He orders then I slowly look him in the eye but

"I SAID LOOK AT ME!" He exclaims with a slam on the table that startled me. I look at him and I was about to cry but I keep on holding back my tears

"Why for you fail? You are the only student I've been trusted and yet you failed!" He hollers

"You just missed the opportunity to be an exchange student in New York be successful! And I want all of my students to be like that! and yet you failed me"

"The fail the entire hospital! You are working in the main hospital and yet you failed from the surgeons on the other branch?!" He added

"Well at least we save the life of the patient" I answered

He aggressively pushed back his hair and scratch it harder as he released all his anger on it, he reached out for my face and imaginarily squished it like a dough.

"Save lives, save lives. YOU ALWAYS MAKE THAT FOR A REASON!" he shouted as he flips his chair and it shattered into parts. I quiver in fear and a tear rolled down into my chin. My hands are terribly trembling, and legs began shaking.

"GET OUT! I SAID GET OUT!" He screams at me and grunts, I run outside after he was about to throw his stapler on me, I closed the door and leans on the wall beside the door. I slowly drag my body down on the floor and I crouch and hid my face underneath my crossed arms.

I silently cry and take a lot of deep breaths just not to scream the pain that I'm feeling. My chest tightens so bad and it’s hard to breath, so I just opened my mouth and pretend that I am screaming out loud, but the truth is, I was just screaming in an inside voice. It’s hard to accept, I may save other's life, but I can't even save mine, now I feel stuck on something that I couldn't get out or move away. I covered my mouth to be unable to create noise but then there's this little kid holding a teddy bear on her arms. She looked at me worriedly, so I immediately wipe my tears and tried to smile at her.

"Are you Dr. Diaz?" she asks sweetly

"Ahh, yes little girl I am" I replied

"I just want to say thank you for saving my mom" She said and I wonder, I looked closely to her and I recognize her face was actually look like the woman I operates earlier

"Your welcome" I replied then she hands me over a bar Snickers and run away. I take the Snickers with me as I head back to my office.

I was pretty silent, I couldn't still help myself from getting disappointed for what happened. I spent my time reading some books about Cardiology and eat the snickers that the little kid gave to me, and I'm sure she got it from the vending machine. Before I performed the surgery, Ken left me a Bentel box again with delicious foods on it, and of course a cup of coffee and rose with a note in it that says, 'good luck'. It made me smile, my phone rings and see that my mom is calling me so I answered it

"Hi mom" I greeted with a fake smile

-I know that smile, something's wrong

"I failed to be an exchange student" I replied

-Honey, just like my mother used to say 'every cloud has a silver lining' and I know there are more ways to be an exchange student

"Like what?"

-Miracle. You need a break honey, dis you receive the money I loan?

"I gave it to those who need it the most" I beam at her and she seems surprise

-It was for you

"But they need it the most. Henderson raised me to be helpful to others mom"

-That's my girl. Okay I'll give a loan again and make sure to invite your team, Heiley and Lukas with your vacation. And don't forget about Kenji~

"okay, okay, bye mom" I said as I hung up the call
