Chapter 1
Transfer
"Catherine, are you ready?" Mommy asked.
I nodded and smiled at her, who was looking at my assessment papers intently. My mother looks like she's about to cry. I'm going to transfer to Springfield University, to experience a new environment. It was also my dream school to apply for in college. I've heard it's a closed school. The students are safe and can only go home every end of the semester.
It kind of excites me staying inside the school premises. It's like living on my own. Apartment, condo or something... except that it's inside the university.
I know it's hard for them to let me go and live alone for a while, but I'm just going to take the entrance exam so why is my mom being emotional right now?
Kapag nakapasa ako sa entrance exam, makakasama ko si Kuya Axel, my brother, and Daniella, my best friend. I don't know about Lucas, one of my guy friends, since he's in New Zealand right now so we doesn't have any idea where he'll apply. Hopefully in the same university.
Meanwhile, my other two guy friends, Matthew and Waxy are turning 2nd year college. And my best friend, Mikaella just finished her grade 11 journey. She'll be grade 12 this year.
"Don't pressure yourself on taking the exam, sweetheart. Just calm down and don't be nervous, okay? You can do it." My dad gave me a smile and a pat on the head.
I love how they were never giving me academic pressure and were contented with my grades. But I wasn't that 'petiks' either. Maybe sometimes I am lazy but I try my best to excel too. I graduated senior high school with the highest honor. They were proud of me and I couldn't be more thankful for them... for my family.
"Yes, Dad." I smiled and fixed my things. My parents will go with me to Springfield University to submit my papers. Kasabay na rin ng pagpapasa ko ng mga papeles ko ay ang entrance exam. I also submitted my papers and took exams in other universities, both inside and outside the country, just incase I won't be able to pass here... but hopefully I will. I am nervous but at the same time, excited. The school name was kind of fancy, which excites me to know more about it.
I just combed my hair and put on a lip and cheek tint before going to the van. Daddy drove the van for almost three hours. We arrived in time.
My jaw dropped upon seeing the school. I didn't know my brother's school is this beautiful! It was like a castle.
We went to the admission office to pass my papers. After everything was processed, I finally took the entrance exam with about 30 students. Our arrangement was in alphabetical order and we'll use 3 rooms upon taking the examination. 10 students will take the exam per room. My surname's initial was letter C so I was at the room 1. Tenth on the list, actually.
I tried my best not to be nervous because I know pressure will distract me. Nakahinga ako ng maluwag nang matapos ang exam. Not a bad performance, but not a good one either. Just hoping for the best. The result will come out after two months so I have to breathe for a while and wait.
I chose BA in Digital Filmmaking for my college program. My parents actually wanted me to take business but I just don't feel business at all, although I find handling our hotel fun. I prefer filmmaking. If I won't make it here in SFU, I might go back to my previous school, Alpinestars University. These two universities are well-known in the country.
Mom hugged me the moment I went out of the room while Dad patted my head. I smiled.
"How was it?" they asked.
