⚠️ Warning: mentions of abandonment, implications of trauma, curse words
"How is she?", Wanda asked as she opened the door Loki and Kara's shared room, peeking over from the door. When she saw that Kara was still passed out, she walked inside, shutting the door quietly.
"By what Stark said, she had a panic attack. He said she just needs to rest, and she'll return to her normal state in a few minutes.", Loki replied in a serious tone, his eyes fixated on the girl on his bed. Wanda nodded at this, playing with her fingers behind her back.
An awkward silence filled the room. Loki, being emotionally intuitive, knew that Wanda's presence was not solely due to concern for Kara. His eyes met hers, and he sighed in response. "Wait for me outside." The witch gave him a soft smile, turning around on her heel and exiting the room. The god pressed a kiss on Kara's forehead before standing up and following Maximoff.
"About last night...", Wanda started as she and Loki walked side by side. "... why did you stop me?"
Loki scoffed at the question. "I may be cold, but not to the extent of letting someone kill themselves.", he responded, cocking an eyebrow at the redhead. Wanda sheepishly looked in his direction, breathing heavily. They both could have sworn they saw a a figure coming into view as they passed by, but decided to focus on their conversation.
"Thank you.", she muttered so softly that only the two of them could hear it. The prince remained silent, but nodded his head. As they reached the balcony, Wanda rested her arms on the railing, while Loki had his hands politely behind his back.
"Why did you do it?", he finally asked the question that roamed his mind the whole night.
"Vision and I aren't on good terms, as are Kara and I.", she answered calmly, exhaling deeply after uttering her statement. Loki's head snapped in her direction. "And so you resorted to bringing an end to your life?", he asked in disbelief. The witch didn't reply, for she couldn't find a reasonable answer to that.
"It was the only thing I thought of. You should know by now that my emotions are unreliable, Loki.", she ultimately said, twiddling with her glowing fingers. Loki scoffed yet again. "Oh, believe me, I know."
Wanda let out a soft laugh, a laugh she didn't know she still had in her. As soon as the chuckle escaped her lips, she covered her mouth with wide eyes, obviously surprised at her reaction. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have laughed-"
"It's all right. It's a good sign.", he cut her off, smiling into the distance. Wanda stayed silent, a small grin tugging at her lips. "Out of all the people in this facility, never would I have imagined I would be opening up to the God of Mischief.", Wanda continued. The Asgardian rolled his eyes at her sentence. "And why is that? Because I destroyed New York?", he inquired, slightly offended.
Wanda laughed. "Everyone has a past, Loki. You taught me that I could be more than my past self.", she admitted. Loki simply gazed at her. "I see my brother Pietro in you, stubborn and a pain in the ass most of the times.", Wanda continued, earning an eye roll from the god. "But a great listener, nonetheless."
The god felt his heart melt at Wanda's words. He viewed her as the sister he never had, someone who looked up at him and saw a big brother who would protect and defend her at all times. "You're the closest thing to a brother I have at the moment. So, thank you.", she added, wiping a single tear that escaped her eye. Loki gave her a sad smile, patting her on the back and resting his hand there.
"Do not attempt to do anything stupid like that again.", he warned, reverting back to his stoic expression.
