Chapter 11

"Chenle, do you know how to solve this?" Minjee asked, showing him the problem she was working on. The three sophomores were with Jisung, Jimin, and Nari, the five of them working on homework while Jimin propped her head up with an arm, playing a game on her phone.

"I have no idea, Renjun helped me with that one." Chenle said. Minjee looked towards Naeun.

"I copied off him." Naeun told her. Minjee let out a sigh.

"Why don't you just ask him?" Nari suggested. Minjee shot her a glare.

"Why don't you just confess your feelings?" Minjee retorted, immediately silencing the sprite. She heard a phone slam down.

"Minjee, just drop your pride and ask him, it's not like he'll do a bad job explaining." Jimin told her.

"Even if I was dying, I wouldn't ask Huang Renjun for help." Minjee said, closing her books.

"Where are you going?" Chenle asked.

"I'm going to ask Rena." Minjee replied. Chenle lifted an eyebrow.

"She's probably with Renjun and Haechan." Chenle told her. Minjee let out a groan, throwing her head back.

"Why must he ruin everything?" Minjee asked, to no one in particular. Minjee let out a deep sigh as she grabbed Chenle's notebook, deciding to copy his anwer instead.

"What's up with her?" Haechan whispered to Renjun as they sat across the demon girl aggressively writing into her notebooks.

"She's studying." Renjun responded, not even bothering to lift his head up.

"Seems a bit more than regular studying." Haechan replied. Renjun shrugged his shoulders.

"I would be pretty upset if my boyfriend turned out to be a shapeshifter too." Renjun told him, adjusting his glasses.

"We broke up." Rena said, putting her pen down. "Also, neither of you are very quiet."

Renjun and Haechan stared at the girl with mouths wide open as Rena looked up from her notes.

"What?!" They both exclaimed at the same time. Rena let out a sigh.

"We broke up. At the end of the school year. Jaemin broke up with me right before his solo mission." Rena explained. Renjun and Haechan were silent for a second before exploding into various statements.

"You guys broke up and you didn't tell me?!" Renjun said, throwing his hands up.

"Is that how you knew it was a shapeshifter?" Haechan asked.

"I can't believe we spent all summer together and you didn't say a word." Renjun was giving Rena a death stare at this point as he leaned back, crossing his arms over his chest.

"Whataver." Rena said as Haechan shoved Renjun over, leaning forward across the table to get closer to Rena.

"Okay, but ignoring him though, is that how you knew?" Haechan asked. Rena nodded her head.

"I knew something was very off when Jaemin was all nice to me and acting like he was my boyfriend even though we broke up." Rena told him.

"I still can't believe you two broke up and neither of you told me." Renjun said, pouting. "So much for being best friends."

"Something seems off though." Haechan said, leaning back. He poked Renjun in the arm. "Can you stop pouting and use your brain for a moment, we kind of need it."

"What do you mean?" Rena asked as Renjun rolled his eyes before turning to face Haechan as well.

"Isn't it weird that Jaemin broke up with you all of a sudden, went off on his solo mission, and then disappeared?" Haechan pointed out. Renjun nodded in agreement.

"That is weird." Renjun said, tapping his chin. "Not to mention Jaemin was literally crazy about you. Why would he suddenly break up?"

"It's like...." Haechan's voice trailed off.

"Like what?" Rena asked him. Haechan turned to Renjun who let out a sigh, knowing what Haechan was thinking.

"It's like someone told him to break up with you."

"Taking your sweet time, aren't you?" Yuta said to Jungwoo and Sejung as he got up. Winwin looked up from his phone for a second, pausing his game before placing it inside his pocket.

"Someone was enjoying his food a bit too much." Sejung said, glaring at Jungwoo. Jungwoo shrugged his shoulders.

"I eat five meals a day, what can I say?" Jungwoo said as Winwin and Yuta began to walk away. As they passed Jungwoo, he reached out to grab Winwin's wrist. The elder faerie immediately turned around, staring at him.

"What do you want?" Winwin asked.

"We should talk. After." Jungwoo told him. Jungwoo motioned to the shapeshifter, hoping Winwin would get the message.

"I'll be in my office." Winwin said before leaving with Yuta. Jungwoo turned back to Sejung who was staring at an mirror image of herself on the otherside of the glass.

"Jungwoo, want to play a game?" Sejung asked, a smirk on her face.

...

"So I'm guessing this isn't a big brother talk." Rena said as she plopped down into the chair across from Jaehyun's desk. Jaehyun shook his head.

"Quite the opposite." Jaehyun said, taking out the folder in his hands. Rena leaned forward, peering at the name on the cover. Na Jaemin.

Jaehyun opened up the folder, pulling out the information they had on shapeshifters that Rena had found with Renjun and Haechan.

"I need to know what happened in Jaemin's room, everything you saw the shapeshifter do." Jaehyun told her. Rena leaned back in her seat.

"Shouldn't we be working on looking for Jaemin instead?" Rena said.

"That's not your problem, don't worry about it." Jaehyun said. Rena couldn't believe her ears.

"Not my problem? Jaemin was one of the closest people to me!" Rena exclaimed. Jaehyun rubbed his temples.

"Rena, you guys broke up, it's not your problem." Jaehyun said, impatiently tapping his pen on his desk. Rena scoffed.

"Broken up or not, doesn't mean that I don't care." Rena mumbled. That's when she realized something. She quickly stood straight, pulling the folder right out of Jaehyun's hands.

"Hey, I need that!" Jaehyun cried, standing up but Rena was faster, immediately running to the halls.

"Choi Rena, give that back!" Jaehyun yelled, making the other agency leaders peek out of their offices to see what was going on.

"There must be something in here..." Rena said to herself as she searched through it. She heard a swoosh and a hand tightly grip her shoulder, turning her around. Jaehyun was in his demon form, his violet eyes glowing. Behind him was Johnny and Taeyong, the other agency leaders peeking out.

"Rena, give it back." Jaehyun's voice was low like a growl as he squeezed Rena's shoulder but as Rena looked up, her eyes were violet as well. She dropped the contents of the folder, minus one sheet of paper that had a list of instructions for Jaemin's solo mission. On the top, it read.

Break up with Rena so you have no strings attached.

The handwriting was too familiar to Rena, she had seen it thousand of times growing up. It was none other than Jaehyun's.

"Some big brother you are." Rena said, crinkling up the paper into a ball before throwing it into Jaehyun's face before walking away.
