Chapter 22

Jaehyun threw the vampire against the wall, the body landing on the ground with a thud. Stupid creature.

"The doors locked, he has to be in here!" Jeno yelled at him as Johnny held back the faeries and sirens attacking them.

"Jaehyun, how are we supposed to unlock this?" Rena asked, as she fiddled with the lock. Jaehyun could tell she was using all her strength to try to break the lock but was failing miserably.

Before Jaehyun could answer, the creatures fighting them were suddenly thrown away by themselves. "You can't, it's spelled."

That voice...

Jaehyun and the rest immediately turned to the sound of the voice to see a woman wearing a black robe, the hood over her head, only showing her red lips, pale skin, and long black hair. She slowly removed her hood, revealing the person to blame for Sora's death.

"Why are you here?" Rena asked, her hands balled into fists. She had asked the question they all had on their minds.

"Did you think these shapeshifters created themselves? I thought you were smart." Sora's mother said, flicking her hand. The lock immediately fell to the ground, the door and walls fading, revealing Jaemin chained up.

Jaehyun clenched his teeth as he saw the boy. Jaemin's skin was a sickly purple, clear that he hadn't had blood in months. His eyes were closed, dark bags under his eyes. Jaemin's dried blood littered patches of his skin, clear that he had gone through large amounts of torture, and the lack of blood making it difficult for him to heal.

Rena immediately ran towards him but hit something, revealing a purple wall surrounding Jaemin. A forcefield.

"Not so fast, young lady." Sora's mother said, waving a finger.

"What do you want?" Jaehyun asked her. An evil grin spread across her face.

"You. And Rena." Sora's mother simply answered. Jaehyun could tell that Johnny, Jeno, and Jiwoo were sending him looks of panic.

"Why?" Jaehyun asked her. Sora's mother seemed amused by the question.

"What do you two have in common?" Sora's mother asked. Jaehyun didn't bother answering the question as it was blatantly obvious. They were both demons.

Sora's mother must have realized this as she took a step forward, towards him. "And what's so special about demons."

It all makes sense now. Jaehyun thought as he realized what Sora's mother wanted. If she had wanted to kill Jaemin, she would have done it a long time ago. This was all a well thought out trap and they had walked straight into it.

"You can't bring Sora back from the dead." Johnny told her. "Even with the power of demons, you can't."

"Oh, how are you so sure, werewolf?" Sora's mother said. With another flick of her hand and a few whispers, Johnny, Jeno, and Jiwoo were thrown against the wall, their bodies held in place by her spell. "I created shapeshifters, what makes you think I'm not powerful enough to do this?"

"Well we're here. Let go of Jaemin." Rena said through her teeth. But Sora's mother had other plans.

"Letting him go is a little difficult. But I can let you in, if you'd like. On one condition." Sora's mother said, with smile. Rena glanced at Jaehyun who shook his head.

"What is it?" Rena asked her. Jaehyun wanted to scream but Sora's mother must have casted a spell as he was frozen in place. Why did you even look at me when you were going to ask anyways?!

"I need your powers. Your demon powers." Sora's mother said. Rena raised an eyebrow.

"I can't even do that if I wanted to." Rena said. Sora's mother took out an item from the pocket of her robes.

It was a gold necklace with a large ruby pendant. Sora's mother made her way to Rena. "All it takes is a little spell and some will power. Not that difficult if you put your mind to it."

No, Jaehyun wanted to scream as he watched Sora's mother place the necklace in her hands before placing a hand on her head. "Just relax now."

Black smoke appeared around the two, blocking Jaehyun's view of them. The smoke quickly disappeared, fading into the ruby necklace in Rena's hands as she collapsed onto the ground, clearly weaker than she was before.

She's... Human now.

Sora's mother had a satisfied look on her face as she picked Rena up by the collar before shoving her through the purple wall. "You can go have fun now."

Rena fell onto the floor before standing up again, sending Sora's mother one last glare before running towards Jaemin.

"Now, you." Sora's mother said, turning to face him. Jaehyun suddenly felt his body move again as he knees gave in. He quickly stood back up. Well, I guess there's no time to worry about Rena and Jaemin now.

"What do you want from me?" Jaehyun asked her. She smiled.

"I don't know why you're so angry, I'm about to bring your girlfriend back to life." Sora's mother said.

"Sora's dead. Because of you." Jaehyun spat. Sora's mother's eyes soften as she stepped forward, tilting his chin up with one finger so that he stared straight at her.

"I'm sorry Jaehyun. I know how much she meant to you and I always loved you like my own child." Sora's mother said. "Why don't we work together now, and bring her back?"

"Why do you need me?" Jaehyun asked her, narrowing his eyes. Something was fishy about the whole scenario. The witch showed him her teeth as she smiled widely.

"You agents and all your questions." Sora's mother sighed as she stepped back. "How do you think I'm going to bring Sora back without visiting Hell?"

Jaehyun scoffed. Sora's mother, probably the most powerful witch in this world, needed him to open the depths of Hell for her.

"She's not there. I already checked." Jaehyun told her. Sora's mother laughed.

"That's funny. Because we all know she died an unfair death. The Devil must be hiding her." Sora's mother told him. "Ah, the Devil. DId you really think she would show you Sora's soul, after all the history you two had? You know she wouldn't do that, it breaks the laws of creating a demon. A demon must wake up with no memory of their previous life, and you would be breaking that."

The witch's eyes sparked as she turned to face him. "But I can change that, just for you. All I need is you to join me. Help me Jaehyun. Let's bring Sora back, together."

Jaehyun bit his lip. The thought of bringing Sora back was tempting. His brain was screaming no but his broken heart that desperately wanted to be mended was telling him to take the woman's hand that was laid out in front of her.

"Can you really bring her back?" Jaehyun asked, his voice cracking at the end.

"Of couse, my dear." Sora's mother said softly. Jaehyun took a deep breath, not bothering to look at the agents surrounding him. He had made his decision.

"Alright." Jaehyun said. Time seemed to slow as he reached his hand out, placing his hand with Sora's mother's. He could feel her smile widen as his fingers were inches away from hers, but right when they were only a hair apart, time seemed to move properly again as a sword poked through her chest, the body falling to the ground.

Renjun stood behind her, tears falling down his face as Jaehyun's eyes widened in shock. The purple wall around Jaemin fell and Jaehyun could hear Johnny, Jeno, and Jiwoo be released from behind him.

Renjun quickly wiped away his tears as Haechan and Yangyang comforted their friend. "She was like a second mother to me." Renjun whispered, the words barely audible for Jaehyun to hear.

He turned to face Jaehyun, his eyes more intense than Jaehyun had ever seen before. Jaehyun gulped.

"Hyung, what were you even thinking?"
